INSPECTING REASSEMBLED STARTER<br />

1. No Load Test: Connect the starting motor as<br />

shown in Figure 22.<br />

The values for this test are as follows:<br />

Battery Voltage ......... 11.5 volts<br />

RPM ............. 8000rpm(min)<br />

Maximum Current Draw . . . 25 amperes<br />

12.0 volts<br />

4,800-6,lOO<br />

32 amperes<br />

NOTE: 1.<br />

To ensare good electrical contact, make<br />

sure starter to engine mounting surfaces are fzee<br />

of dirt or oil.<br />

2. When tightening attaching bolts <strong>and</strong> nut, starter<br />

gear should be held into ring gear to assure proper<br />

backlash.<br />

3. Battery to slating motor wire must be tightened<br />

securely.<br />

Starter hotors are not designed far<br />

continuous operation. Do not operate<br />

more than 30 seconds per “Ok’ cycle. Do no; operate<br />

starter more than 10 seconds in a stall condition if<br />

engine wiI1 not rotate. Serious damage could result if<br />

these time Zimits are exceeded.<br />
