Camp CEES Summer Camp 20<strong>09</strong><br />
The Center for Energy and Environmental Studies (CEES), in conjunction with the Office of Research and<br />
Str<strong>at</strong>egic Initi<strong>at</strong>ives (ORSI) <strong>at</strong> <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong>, hosted its 4 th year M<strong>at</strong>h, Science and Reading Summer<br />
Enrichment Camp. This Camp is committed to fostering educ<strong>at</strong>ional experiences in STEM (Science,<br />
Technology, Engineering and M<strong>at</strong>hem<strong>at</strong>ics) fields.<br />
As our n<strong>at</strong>ion turns its focus to the environment, this year CEES added a special program “CEES goes<br />
GREEN.” Campers had the opportunity to particip<strong>at</strong>e in several camp projects th<strong>at</strong> allowed students to utilize<br />
green science “by recycling, reducing carbon footprints and exploring altern<strong>at</strong>ive forms of energy.” The closing<br />
program fe<strong>at</strong>ured “Solar Energy Projects” with students displaying their own solar house. In addition, students<br />
demonstr<strong>at</strong>ed Chemistry and Robotics Projects.<br />
Camp CEES is funded by the N<strong>at</strong>ional Aeronautics and Space Administr<strong>at</strong>ion (NASA) Center for Coastal<br />
Zone Assessment and Remote Sensing (CCZARS) grant.<br />
