Unit 268 First aid essentials UAN: Level: 2 Credit value: 1 GLH: 10 Assessment Endorsement by a sector or regulatory body: Aim: D/504/6101 Portfolio containing examples of observed practice in the learner’s workplace. Additional evidence to support practical competence may include: reflective accounts, assignments, assessor devised questions, outcomes of research based activities and witness testimonies This unit is endorsed by Skills for Care and Development The aim of this unit is for learners to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider including equipment, record keeping and basic hygiene. Learning outcome The learner will: 1. understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider Assessment criteria The learner can: 1.1 identify the role and responsibilities of a first aider 1.2 identify how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others 1.3 identify the need for establishing consent to provide first aid 1.4 identify the first aid equipment that should be available 1.5 describe the safe use of first aid equipment.
