Young Enterprise
Gumption and Aphrodite represented South Wilts at the Young Enterprise Area Finals, held at the Guild
Hall on 28 th April, along with teams from Bishops and Godolphin. Each team had already produced a
Company Report. The judges questioned them about this when they visited the Trade Stands
displayed at the Area Finals. Five people from each team then had 10 minutes to give an oral
presentation and all used powerpoint for visual effect. South Wilts did extremely well as Aphrodite were
presented with a shield for Best Company Report and Gumption were Overall Winners.
Gumption and Godolphin (highly recommended at the Area Finals) went on to represent South
Wiltshire at the County Finals which were held on 13 th May. Eight teams were involved from Wiltshire
and each team had to produce a Company Report, a Trade Stand and a Presentation. Improvements
were allowed to be made after feedback from the judges in the Area Finals. There were 12 trophies
awarded on the evening and South Wilts won 5! These were Best Report Shield, HSBC Cup for Best
Over 16, Thames Water Cup for Customer Focus, Best Financial Performance Shield and HTV Trophy
for Overall Winner! Gumption now go on to represent the County at the Divisional Finals (South West
Region) which will be held in Cornwall in June.

Finals. Thank you also to the advisers: Andy Townsend, Ant Derry and Maggie James, who have been
hard working and helpful throughout the year.

Orienteering Success for Alice!!
Alice Butt 9N has returned from her fantastic event in Belgium laden with medals and
wonderful memories. Alice competed in two individual races, (in which she placed 4 th
and 2 nd ) and a ‘goodwill’ event where she was paired with a non-English speaking
partner! Alice said that communicating with her foreign partner was challenging, but
they achieved all their checkpoints and had fun along the way. Alice’s excellent
individual results contributed towards Great Britain taking first place in the World Schools’ Orienteering
team event. Well done Alice.
A BIG thank you to all students who supported the Orienteering Challenge at the end of March and
helped to raise £100 towards Alice’s travel costs. (Mrs Godber)
