Benzie County Central Schools Report of TBAISD Services Received 2008-09 REMC 2 Central Media Services Your district accessed materials for instructional support, attended technology trainings, and received a substantial cost savings on materials, video integration, and technology purchases through our regional media service. • Savings from Cooperative Bid Purchasing: $28,501 • United Streaming digital video library access: 2325 views/858 logins • Discovery Education Subscription Savings to access United Streaming: $7,150 • Movie Licensing Savings: $162.50 • Number of Book Sets, Videos, DVDs, etc checked out of resource library: 703 Through a grant from the Michigan Department of Education’s Technology Department, TBAISD invited one teacher from each school building in our region to participate in a professional development project titled “Discovery Champions.” The project goal was to increase the integration of video streaming into the curriculum. Each participating school received: • Epson 83+ Data Projector ($639 each) • Full day of training and a follow-up work session with substitute reimbursement. • Half of the Discovery Education REMC negotiated cost was funded by REMC/TBAISD ($245/building) Discovery Champion Teachers created three lesson plans that incorporated a Discovery Education Streaming element and aligned the lesson plan to the GLCEs. Lesson plans are currently available to all area teachers on the SharePoint site. Special Education TBAISD Special Education staff provides service and support for your staff and students, as well as assistance with federal and state requirements. A compilation of the work that is accomplished on your district’s behalf includes: • Chair, Monitor IEPs • Monitor class size/caseload • Child Study • Advising on legal issues • Assistance to new teachers • Monthly newsletter • Mediation with parents • Data and Compliance: Data collection, analysis, and reporting for December Federal Count • Continuous Improvement Focused Monitoring/Educational Benefit Review • Medicaid management, training, support • Technical assistance with Rules, Regulations, Complaints and Hearings • Curriculum Extension Guidelines Training TBAISD Center Programs Forty-one (41) students from Benzie County Central Schools with the following disabilities participated in TBAISD programs: • Early Childhood Developmental Delay • Autism Spectrum Disorder • Cognitively Impaired • Emotional Impairment • Other Health Impairment • Severely Multiply Impaired In addition to classroom based services, fourteen (14) of the students receive Speech and Language services; eight (8) students receive Occupational Therapy services; three students receive Teacher Consultant services; eight (8) students receive Physical Therapy services; four (4) students receive Health services; four (4) students receive School Social Work services and three (3) students receive Psychologist services. Special Education in Benzie County Central Schools Two hundred and fifty-six (256) students from Benzie County Central Schools received special education services. Of those, one-hundred and sixty-two (162) students received special education services from Benzie special education teachers; an additional thirty-three (33) students received instruction from early childhood program providers, and one student received homebound services from Benzie County Central Schools staff. Some students received additional services from TBAISD special education staff. These include: • 37 students received School Social Work services (including one homebound student) • 7 students received Teacher Consultant services • 107 students received Speech and Language services • 7 students received Physical Therapy services • 28 students received Occupational Therapy services • 4 students received Orientation and Mobility services 7
