The prayer today can be found in the Diocesan Lenten Program.
Jesus, as I contemplate your face:
let me experience your great love for me.
Reveal your saving grace and give me a grateful heart.
Heal me of my weaknesses and sin and fill me with compassion for others.
Gift me with the wisdom of the Spirit and encourage me
of what makes our Catholic schools and colleges different. It is a day where teachers learn more about the Catholic
tradition and ethos. As a result, students are granted a day to work on assignments and homework from home.
academically. Well done to all who will receive medals.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL
It was unfortunate but a necessary decision to cancel the Carnival last Monday. We are examining if we are able to
run it at a different time or with a different format. We are wanting students, who enjoy swimming, to have a chance
to compete with others.
From the MIDDLE SCHOOL COORDINATOR
Year 8 Camp: Last week our Year 8 students attended camp at “Cool
Waters” in Yeppoon. The purpose of the camp was for students to build
relations with their core teachers and other students in their class and
House group. A great time was had by all. Students participated in a
range of activities over the two days. It was wonderful to see so many
students and teachers actively engaged and having a great time.
Students were also given the opportunity to learn more about life at
the College including our strong foundations. I have no doubt this
experience will enhance students’ Year 8 experience for the remainder
of the year. I would like to thank all the staff involved for their time and
efforts.
From the COLLEGE CAPTAINS
Hello everybody,
Last Thursday on Valentine’s Day, the Seniors really got into the
spirit and spread the love. There were singing telegrams, red roses
and chocolate hearts delivered and sold to ensure everyone was
feeling the love and the Valentine’s Day spirit. There was a lot of
effort put into the celebrations from the Year 12’s to ensure the
lunch time serenades were a success, and it really paid off. A big
thankyou to everyone that helped and participated as the funds
raised went to the CQ flood appeal, TCC was able to collect $425 for
the worthy cause. It was great to see such a fun filled day go towards
such a great cause.
In other news around the College, the College Captains hosted the Regional School Leaders Network Induction last
Thursday. It was such a great chance to meet other school leaders from around the district and represent our College.
Tayla Stanke, Kathleen Dunne, Louis Magnussen and Curtis Duff
TCC College Captains and Residential Captains were inducted at the Rockhampton Region’s 2013 College Leaders
Induction Ceremony held in the Cathedral last week. Curtis Duff, Louis Magnussen, Tayla Stanke, Kathleen Dunne,
Blair Bongers and Julia Larsen, together with 100 students from the twelve other regional high schools, pledged
leadership through service and example in upholding their College motto and mission. Following the ceremony the
leaders, together with principals, gathered at TCC for a BBQ.
SPORTS NEWS
AFL Jumpers Blessed: It is a great tradition in the Catholic Church to
show our gratitude for our fortune and to ask for God’s protection of
things that we value. Catholic families can ask for a blessing on things
like a new house, car or Rosary beads. This year we finally received new
AFL jumpers for the TCC team and to show our gratitude and seek God’s
protection we asked Father John Hogan to bless our new set of jumpers
at Mass last Thursday. I am sure this blessing will bring safety and
success to our AFL teams as we begin a new season this afternoon at
Kele Park 4pm.
Mr Gerard Raven
From the DIRECTOR OF SPORT
Welcome from the Sports Desk to all of our new students here at TCC for their first time and a big welcome back to all
returning students. Sport at TCC in 2013 is set to be a big one with school sport and representative sport already
kicking off!
To keep up to date with all of the latest sporting news, results and opportunities here at TCC, it is recommended that
you frequently check out the sports section on our website, make it a habit to check the sports noticeboard on a
regular basis and continue to read the weekly publication, the Chronicle.
For new students and their families, it is recommended that you also make yourself familiar with the sport policies
and procedures. These are available on our website, under the Sports section.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL: Unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions and the state of the Southside Pool, our
first Interhouse event, the Swimming Carnival had to be postponed. We are looking at alternative dates to hold this
event. Please watch this space and check the College website for more information. We apologise for any
inconvenience caused to any families.
The TCC Swimming Squad has been chosen to compete at the Rockhampton Interschool Carnival to be held at
Rockhampton Grammar School on Monday 4 March. The squad of 40 has been posted on the sports noticeboard. All
students are asked to collect a consent form from the Sports Office and return it to confirm your spot in the squad.
SCHOOL SPORT: A number of our school sporting competitions have already commenced, these include AFL, Girls
Basketball and Water Polo. Students have also been asked to express their interest in Rugby Union and Lawn Bowls.
Consent forms for all school sports need to be collected from the Sports Office and returned to the Front Counter with
any necessary levy before students are allowed to compete.
REPRESENTATIVE SPORT: If you are interested in trialling for representative honours, it is essential that you see Mr
Dever for the necessary paperwork ASAP as there is very limited turnaround time. All representative trials have and
will be advertised in the morning notices and on the sports noticeboard. Please take notice of not only the trial dates,
but also the dates that paperwork is due to be returned. Secondary School Sport operates via extremely strict
deadlines meaning that students will not be able to trial if their paperwork is not returned by the allocated dates with
the associated trial costs.
WHATS HAPPENING AROUND THE GROUNDS: This section is where we acknowledge the outstanding sporting
achievements of our students as well as keep you up to date with what’s happening around our community.
We already have a number of students who have made representative teams, these include:
Tashina Ketchup – Capricornia AFL
Vera Duncan – Capricornia AFL
Jezebel Gisu – Capricornia Volleyball
Renee Donpon – Capricornia Waterpolo
