PRAYER
On our recent TCC Day, Rachael Conaghan delivered the following message prior to launching the TCC Prayer:
As a way of celebrating this significant time in the life of TCC; Meg, Vanessa and myself wanted to do something very meaningful
for the school. We wanted to create a legacy that would remain at TCC long after we have graduated. As there is already a
College motto, crest and song we decided to write a special prayer for the College. We chose to incorporate the things that we
believe are essential to life at TCC: education, opportunities, faith, students, staff and families.
TCC PRAYER
Loving God,
You call us to fullness of life.
Thank you for the gift of quality education that is provided here at The Cathedral College.
We pray that you help us to make the most of the opportunities that are offered to us to share our gifts and so
experience life in all its fullness.
May the years we spend here be not only enjoyable but help us to grow as individuals in your image.
Bless the students, staff and families - past, present and future - as they are the heart and soul of this college.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Saint Joseph, pray for us.
World Youth Day will be held in Madrid, Spain in just over a week. A group of young people from our Diocese will
travel there but it is not possible for all our youth to join in this celebration. Accordingly, Bishop Brian Heenan has
decided to hold a celebration in Rockhampton, in conjunction with the main event. World Youth Day Rockhampton
(WYDR) will take place from lunch-time Saturday 20 August and conclude at lunch on Sunday 21 August. This
College has 36 participants but I would like to encourage more. It is a great opportunity for young people to get in
touch with their spirituality in the company of others of similar age. There are no costs associated with the event and
all meals are provided. Participants will receive a backpack and cap upon arrival. Please discuss this opportunity with
your son/daughter.

RESULTS
The Junior Oratory Competition was held last week with around 25 participants. The standard of delivery was
wonderful and I admire the poise of these young people as they deliver their speeches. Winners were:
Year 8 Matt Jacques
Year 9 Rochelle Hollingsworth
Year 10 Curtis Duff
Nine of our thirteen Netball teams have made it through to semi-finals this week. Best wishes to all.
In Rugby League last week we played RGS and I was impressed by the spirit and sportsmanship displayed by our
boys (this is far more important than the scores listed below). Results from the A division games were:
13A TCC 56 d RGS 0
14A TCC 32 d RGS 4
15A RGS 16 d TCC 12
1STS TCC 24 d RGS 12
Our girls Basketball teams have commenced their seasons also and I will be keen to see their performances in
upcoming weeks.
workshops held at the Rockhampton City Band Hall yesterday.
The brass music students are touring the Rockhampton area
system and laying of 1250 m3 of sandy loam in preparation for
Cultural Art Trip (by Quinn Parle): Last weekend a group of thirteen Year 11
art students and three supervisors travelled to Brisbane for a Cultural Art Trip.
We visited many smaller galleries displaying a variety of Australian artwork.
The exclusive Surrealism exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art gave us the
chance to see priceless artworks created by famous Surrealist artists. These
works came all the way from Paris and it was a thrill to see them in
person. The Queensland Art Gallery houses more than 10,000 works and
allowed us to see art both modern and historic. Local attractions like the
Valley and South Bank Markets are at the cultural centre of Brisbane with
artworks, fashion and street performances continuing to provide an exciting
experience. Our trip was both enjoyable and insightful and will surely assist
us in our future art studies.
Creative Generations Excellence Awards: The art work of four year 12
students has been nominated for the Creative Generations Art Exhibition that
Marshall Evans playing tuba with the Qld
Conservatorium Brass Band
opens at the Rockhampton Art Gallery in a couple of weeks. We look forward to seeing the works of Colleen Dunne,
Georgia Hayes, Erin McKinnon and Chloe Olive in the exhibition. Congratulations girls!
Music Tour to New Zealand in 2012: At the invitation of Shalom College in Bundaberg, the TCC Band, String and
Choir ensembles have been given the opportunity to attend the annual Rhapsody Rotorua Music Festival next year.
Students received information earlier this week and expressions of interest can be forwarded to Mr Michael Jones or
myself by the end of next week.
Cultural Support Group meeting: Many thanks to the parents who attended the meeting last night. Several fundraising
options were aired including a multi-draw raffle that will be drawn at the final music evening in November. The
College community is very grateful for the efforts of this wonderful group of parents and I personally thank them for
their support and encouragement.
