The Mission of MYC is to create an environment for mothers that will<br />
provide the opportunity for spiritual, emotional, personal, and intellectual<br />
growth. We will do our best to provide that support. If you have a friend or<br />
neighbor you would like to know better, or know someone new to the area,<br />
invite her to MYC. Please know we welcome anyone that is interested.<br />

<strong>September</strong> <strong>2012</strong><br />
Hi Moms,<br />
As many of us send our kids off to school, some for the first time, there are so<br />
many exciting things that this time of year brings. For me, one of those things is<br />
the start of another MYC year.<br />
As we start off this year, I’d like to tell you about a few things we’ve been doing<br />
over the summer. We held our first ever Children’s Resale, which was such a big<br />
success that there are plans to hold the event again next year. Our Fundraising<br />
committee has been hard at work planning our annual Bake Sale on October 13-<br />
14 and the fall fundraiser “A Night on the Green,” which will take place on<br />
November 3 (more details to come in the next few months about both these<br />
events). Our Charity committee organized a group to serve lunch for 40 people at<br />
PADS in North Chicago. Summer Playgroup hosted fun park play dates and we<br />
were lucky to have great weather! All our board positions have been working<br />
during the summer to plan a fabulous year for us!<br />
I’m excited to tell you about some new things you’ll see this year. We have a new<br />
board position – Vice President. Katy Kieltyka has graciously taken on this role<br />
and will create the job description as the year progresses. Katy and I will work<br />
closely together to make sure MYC continues to meet (and exceed) the needs of<br />
our members. Reflections will start a Bible <strong>St</strong>udy Group and hold an MYC<br />
retreat, which will allow us to focus on the spiritual aspects of our lives (more<br />
details to come on these events as well). We’ll kick-off our Bi-Monthly meetings<br />
with two new Programs, Financial Planning and a Yoga workshop, both of which<br />
are not to be missed!<br />
All our popular, traditional events will continue this year as well. Ladies’ Night<br />
Out, Game Night, and Book Club are great ways for us (especially our working<br />
moms) to socialize with the group in a relaxed setting, either at a member’s home<br />
or at a local business. The Couples Wine Tasting, held around the holidays, is also<br />
a great opportunity for MYC dads to get to know each other.<br />
I think back to this past winter when I first talked to Lynda Flayter about the<br />
presidency. I told her, “I’m thinking about it.” Well, I didn’t have to think too<br />
hard! I knew from very early on that I wanted to be an involved member. I<br />
joined MYC when my oldest son was just six weeks old, and after attending my<br />
first bi-monthly meeting, I had already agreed to be on the board. MYC has been<br />
an important part of my life in just the few short years I’ve been a part of it. I<br />
hope I can help make MYC as special for you as it has been for me.<br />
I’m looking forward to a great year and I hope to see you at some of the fun<br />
events we have planned!<br />

Welcome, New Members!<br />
We welcome the 15 new members who<br />
have joined this summer alone. Watch<br />
for announcements on the new member<br />
brunch to take place later this fall.<br />
Drop-in Playgroup<br />
Come play! Drop-in playgroup is a great<br />
opportunity to meet other moms while<br />
your kids play and make new friends.<br />
Playgroup meets from 9:30-11am. See<br />
the calendar for dates and locations. If it<br />
is raining, playgroup will be held at<br />
Room C of the Formation Center.<br />
Book Club<br />
Book Club typically meets the third<br />
Tuesday of every other month (January,<br />
March, May, July, <strong>September</strong>,<br />
November). Our next Book Club meeting<br />
will take place on <strong>September</strong> 18th. Please<br />
join us for a fun night as we discuss<br />
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Gone Girl is<br />
a psychological thriller about a marriage<br />
gone terribly wrong. All moms are<br />
welcome, even if you have not had a<br />
chance to read the books. Jenn Surber is<br />
our hostess and if you would like to help<br />
co-host, please contact Wendy Koetz.<br />

Game Night<br />
The next Game Night will be hosted by<br />
Kristen Sheridan and Kristen Dowd in<br />
October. Date and place are TBD and<br />
will be announced on CmomGo.com<br />
soon. We are looking for hosts/co-hosts<br />
for future game nights! Hosts/co-hosts<br />
provide light refreshments and choose<br />
the games to be played. For more<br />

Our annual bake sale will follow<br />
all masses on Saturday, October<br />
13 th , and Sunday, October<br />
14 th . Last year’s bake sale was a<br />
huge success; please help us<br />
continue this tradition! The<br />
proceeds from the bake sale will<br />
benefit Angels for Avery. We need<br />
everyone to put on their aprons, fire<br />
up the oven, and make lots of<br />
delicious baked goods for the sale.<br />
Spread the word and talk to your<br />
friends, family, and neighbors to<br />
see if they would like to help as<br />
well! Volunteers are needed for<br />
baking and to help sell after each<br />
mass. Please look for more<br />

Save the date for the “Night on the<br />
Green” fundraising event! Please<br />
join us on Saturday, November 3 rd ,<br />
at 7:30 pm at White Deer Run Golf<br />
Club in Vernon Hills. This event<br />
will guarantee a laugh or two with<br />
a fabulous live comedian, dancing,<br />
a spectacular raffle, and a<br />
picturesque view of the<br />
18 th hole. Proceeds from the event<br />
will benefit Helping from<br />
Heaven, a non-profit foundation<br />
dedicated to improving the comfort<br />
and quality of life for children with<br />
special needs. <strong>St</strong>ay tuned for an<br />

Children’s Resale Event<br />
Julie Harper and Katie Thedos set up the Children’s Resale.<br />
A big thank you to everyone who supported our first ever Children’s<br />
Resale! The event was a big success and we couldn't have done it without<br />
those who donated items, volunteered time at the event, and, of course,<br />
shopped! We raised $2,200, which will be donated to various charities<br />
throughout the year. The unsold items were picked up after the sale by Aid<br />
for Women of Northern Lake County and the Clothing Pantry.<br />
Bi-Monthly Programs Begin in <strong>September</strong><br />
The Fall Season is upon us and our first Bi-Monthly meeting will begin<br />
Thursday, <strong>September</strong> 6 th , from 9:15 to 11a.m. We host them at <strong>St</strong>. Joe’s<br />
Formation Center, located at 112 N. Milwaukee Ave. (Room C). Park<br />
and enter through the rear of the building. We offer babysitting for<br />
your children, too ($6 for one child, $8 for more than one child)!<br />
Our first program will be an informal social. This will give us an<br />
opportunity to reconnect with friends and meet some new ones,<br />
too. Can’t wait to see you! If you have any questions about our<br />
programs, please call Lynda Flayter or Jessica Freitag.<br />

Charity Report<br />
Recently MYC was able to donate<br />
$240 each to Blessings in a<br />
Backpack, Feed my <strong>St</strong>arving<br />
Children, and Bear Magic and<br />
$130 to Lake County Haven. On<br />
July 2, MYC members prepared<br />
and served lunch to 40 people at<br />
PADS of Lake County, a shelter<br />
for families in the Lake County<br />
area.<br />
