4.4.3 Reason <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> visit<br />
For <strong>the</strong> purposes <strong>of</strong> this <strong>economic</strong> <strong>impact</strong> assessment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Grand Prix, all CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials<br />
and o<strong>the</strong>r accredited persons that visited <strong>Victoria</strong> from interstate or overseas were<br />
considered to have specifically come for <strong>the</strong> event. This is based on our assumption that<br />
such participants would not normally have travelled to <strong>Victoria</strong> had <strong>the</strong> Grand Prix not been<br />
staged. This is a reasonable assumption given <strong>the</strong> training required to be an <strong>of</strong>ficial at an<br />
event such as <strong>the</strong> Grand Prix, and <strong>the</strong> fact that o<strong>the</strong>r accredited persons such suppliers and<br />
contractors are usually travelling for <strong>the</strong>ir livelihood.<br />
4.4.4 Accompanying persons<br />
<strong>The</strong> results from <strong>the</strong> internet based survey data <strong>of</strong> CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials indicates that on average<br />
each interstate CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficial interviewed had a total <strong>of</strong> 0.04 accompanying people with<br />
<strong>the</strong>m that visited <strong>Victoria</strong> because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> event (but who did not actually attend <strong>the</strong> event).<br />
International CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials did not have any accompanying people with <strong>the</strong>m that visited<br />
<strong>Victoria</strong> because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> event (but who did not actually attend <strong>the</strong> event) 13 . This data has<br />
been applied over <strong>the</strong> entire population <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials. For <strong>the</strong> purposes <strong>of</strong> simplicity<br />
accompanying persons were not applied to o<strong>the</strong>r accredited persons.<br />
4.4.5 Length <strong>of</strong> stay<br />
For CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials at <strong>the</strong> Grand Prix, <strong>the</strong> survey results indicate <strong>the</strong> following:<br />
►<br />
Interstate <strong>of</strong>ficials stayed on average 6.3 nights; and<br />
► Overseas <strong>of</strong>ficials stayed on average 9.6 nights 14 .<br />
This data has been applied over <strong>the</strong> entire population <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
accredited persons.<br />
4.4.6 Expenditures <strong>of</strong> interstate and overseas CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
accredited persons<br />
Interstate and overseas CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials that visited <strong>Victoria</strong> for <strong>the</strong> Grand Prix were asked a<br />
set <strong>of</strong> questions to determine how much <strong>the</strong>y spent during <strong>the</strong>ir stay:<br />
►<br />
►<br />
At <strong>the</strong> Grand Prix (that is, with <strong>the</strong> AGPC); and<br />
On goods and services outside <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Grand Prix.<br />
<strong>The</strong> reasoning for this methodology is explained in section 4.2.7.<br />
<strong>The</strong> average per trip expenditure <strong>of</strong> CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials in <strong>Victoria</strong> for <strong>the</strong> Grand Prix is<br />
illustrated in Table 26. <strong>The</strong> expenditure has been categorised into industry groups (enabled<br />
by <strong>the</strong> design <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> questionnaire). <strong>The</strong> figures in Table 26 take into account <strong>the</strong> amount<br />
<strong>of</strong> people <strong>the</strong> expenditure covers (as determined from <strong>the</strong> internet based surveys). <strong>The</strong>y<br />
have also been reduced to take into account <strong>the</strong> AGPC receiving revenue from a share <strong>of</strong><br />
food and beverage and merchandise sales at <strong>the</strong> Grand Prix (that will be considered in <strong>the</strong><br />
analysis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AGPC’s revenue and expenditure). This data has been applied over <strong>the</strong><br />
entire population <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials and o<strong>the</strong>r accredited persons.<br />
13<br />
Based on <strong>the</strong> responses <strong>of</strong> 87 interstate CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials (a representative sample) and 11 international CAMS<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficials (a non representative sample).<br />
14<br />
Based on <strong>the</strong> responses <strong>of</strong> 101 interstate CAMS <strong>of</strong>ficials (a representative sample) and 14 international CAMS<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficials (a non representative sample).<br />
