IN MANUFACTURING SECTOR
RATIONALE
One of the priorities of the Government is to further exploit the potential of
manufacturing sector as an important contributor of economic development. This
strategy requires greater participation of the private sector in the development and
transformation of the manufacturing sector. To attract greater participation of the
private sector, there is a need to provide an enabling business environment that
includes coherence, efficiency, predictability and transparency in the rules and regulations
governing business.
In the manufacturing sector, regulation would normally include measures that relate to
licensing and procedures as well as technical standards. However, unnecessary and
irrelevant business regulatory may affect the efficiency business operations as well
as the competitiveness of the business community. Therefore, business regulations
must be reviewed periodically to promote conducive business environment.
OBJECTIVES
• To share the nature of business regulations (i.e., legislations, regulations, and
administrative circulars) affecting the manufacturing industries;
• To share the analysis of business regulations that cause unnecessary burdens
to the business community; and
• To promote the recommendations on how to improve the regulatory environment
for promoting the development of manufacturing industries.
