NIH Information Request<br />

In an effort provide more efficient service to<br />

Principal Investigators, I am requesting a photo<br />

copy <strong>of</strong> the IRG Summary Statement that you<br />

receive from the NIH for the administrative <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

file. This will allow the administrative staff to<br />

review and Summary Statements in an effort to<br />

prepare and advise on issues that can impact the<br />

grant and the <strong>Department</strong>.<br />

IRB NEWS HIGHLIGHTS<br />

IRB Adverse Events<br />

As all faculty may have received the November 1st<br />

issue <strong>of</strong> the Hunteriana newsletter, attached was the<br />

University IRB Annual Summary <strong>of</strong> Significant<br />

Adverse Events Reporting Form. I will have these<br />

forms on file if anyone needs them. If you did not<br />

receive the newsletter and would like a copy, please<br />

e-mail or phone me and I will send you a copy.<br />

GRANT BULLETIN BOARD<br />

The <strong>Department</strong> receives various funding bulletins<br />

which will continue to be posted on the bulletin<br />

board in the conference room. These bulletins<br />

change weekly so frequent checking <strong>of</strong> the board is<br />

encouraged.<br />

THE COMPETITIVE MEDICAL RESEARCH<br />

FUND (CMFR) HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO<br />

MARCH 16. PLEASE SEE TRACY IF YOU<br />

<strong>Department</strong>'s Research Officer<br />

Dr. Robert Bowser, Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, has<br />

graciously agreed to serve as the <strong>Department</strong>'s<br />

Research Officer and will provide direct faculty<br />

oversight for our administrative research grants<br />

staff. Dr. Bowser will assist our administrative staff<br />

in the implementation <strong>of</strong> streamlined financial<br />

reporting on our research grants, as well as<br />

providing faculty oversight and guidance on the<br />

processing <strong>of</strong> research proposals.<br />

PAYROLL OFFICE<br />

In order to keep our <strong>Department</strong>'s database up-todate,<br />

and your employee record accurate, it is<br />

important for you notify Maddie Dusseau, Payroll<br />

Coordinator, <strong>of</strong> any changes in your name, address<br />

or phone number, including area code. Please<br />

include any changes in your email address as well.<br />

MILEAGE ALLOWANCE<br />

Please note the Internal Revenue Service has<br />

increased the standard mileage allowance to 32.5<br />

cents per mile for business use <strong>of</strong> personal<br />

automobiles effective January 1, 1998. This new<br />

policy is applicable to both Pitt / PERF<br />

reimbursement policies.<br />

OVERNIGHT MAIL<br />

Please note that Federal Express hospital accounts<br />

should not be charged for academic materials.<br />

Please check with your Division Secretary for the<br />

appropriate UPS shipping label for nonclinical<br />

mailings. The labels should be marked with the<br />

appropriate account to be charged. If not marked,<br />

faculty members' books, dues and travel will be<br />
