Marketing <strong>and</strong> Web Services<br />

The Department promotes awareness for all TPWD programs <strong>and</strong> services<br />

through advertising <strong>and</strong> media campaigns, promotions, guides, <strong>and</strong><br />

publications. The textbox, Nature Tourism, gives an example of TPWD’s<br />

marketing efforts to promote statewide nature tourism.<br />

Nature Tourism<br />

TPWD initiatives to promote nature tourism in <strong>Texas</strong> include the following.<br />

Hunt <strong>Texas</strong> Online Connection – Matches hunters with private l<strong>and</strong>owners<br />

willing to lease their property.<br />

Life’s Better Outside Online Directory – A searchable database of outdoor<br />

recreation statewide, including bird watching, camping, fishing, biking, horseback<br />

riding, hiking, <strong>and</strong> wildlife viewing.<br />

<strong>Texas</strong> Paddling Trails Program – Partners with communities to increase public<br />

water access through 14 paddling trails.<br />

Great <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Wildlife</strong> Trails – Promotes wildlife viewing sites on private <strong>and</strong><br />

public l<strong>and</strong> through eight trails.<br />

Great <strong>Texas</strong> Birding Classic – Raises funds for habitat conservation <strong>and</strong><br />

restoration through an annual bird watching tournament.<br />

To assist in developing marketing <strong>and</strong> advertising strategies,TPWD performs<br />

consumer research through constituent surveys <strong>and</strong> focus groups, <strong>and</strong><br />

analyzes this information to target marketing efforts. TPWD also maintains<br />

nine websites, listed in the textbox, TPWD Websites. The Department’s main<br />

agency website averages more than 1 million visits each month.<br />

Urban Outdoor Program<br />

The Communications Division implements many of TPWD’s more than<br />

40 outreach programs to educate, encourage, <strong>and</strong> promote conservation<br />

<strong>and</strong> recreation. Many of these outreach programs focus on exposing <strong>Texas</strong>’<br />

increasingly urban population to the skills <strong>and</strong> opportunities to enjoy the<br />

outdoors, as shown in the table on the following page, Urban Outdoor<br />

Programs.<br />
