1 min Call to order Kathleen Kathleen shared with the committee the SEAC and visitors
guidelines.
2 min Guest Introductions Kathleen Stephanie McGraw, AP at Bowie

2 min Directors’ Report Vicki Raul has reached out to Olivia Hernandez for the ELLAC
Strategic Plan and requested a member of their group attend
our SEAC meetings and possibly become a member.
Stephanie was invited by Raul to attend our meeting and
consider becoming a member of the committee filling the
secondary principal vacancy.
60 min Standards presentation Susan Armstrong Susan provided a PowerPoint based on the special education
standards. The standards can be found online at

Standards
It was recommended that Susan and her team give the
presentation to Raul Nuques, the director of special
education.
Gerard recommended that Susan put together a proposal
and present it to the special education department.
Susan indicated that she could revise the presentation she
previously presented.
25 min CPR presentation Kathy Palomo Kathy provided an overview of the program and CPR

sent to all principals offering a brief overview of the

Program Activities
30 min Question for Dr. Carstarphen A response card was handed out to all SEAC committee
members with the following question:
‘What do you believe is the biggest problem that AISD is
currently facing?’
There was round table discussion, and Melinda gathered all
the responses to formulate a response that offered the
collective opinion of the committee.
Response:
Inclusion would be significantly improved within the district if
the following were addressed
1. Communication is lacking between teachers within
schools; among schools in the district; and between
parents and teachers
2. Accountability is needed to ensure standards are
being met by teachers at each campus
3. The district needs to eliminate ineffective teachers and
empower the teachers who are making a difference
