YOUTH ATHLETICS _____________________________________________ Pee Wee Basketball This class introduces youngsters to the rules and fundamentals of basketball. Participants will develop basic skills of dribbling and shooting through drills and games with smaller basketballs and a lower hoop along with learning about teamwork. Stepien Basketball Tournament Grab a few friends and join in on this 2 on 2 Spring Break Basketball Tournament. In this double elimination tournament teams will be seeded blind. Boys and Girls divisions will be offered. No Co-Ed teams. Prizes will be awarded to top two teams. Games will be 15 minutes long, played to 11 points. Pre-registration is required. Please indicate child's shirt size during registration for his/her shirt. Fee includes team shirt, participation award, picture package, and game official. Each team will play four eight minute quarters with running clock. Substitutions will be allowed at the four minute mark at each quarter. Each child will have one practice and play at least half a game each week while learning the value of teamwork. Volunteer coaches will be needed for this blind draft league and only sibling requests are taken for same team. Maximum of two coaches per team. Fee includes team shirt, participation award, basic photo package, end of season party for players, officials and outside facility rentals. Team practices are held once a week, Tuesday-Friday depending on coach availability. Parents who volunteer as a coach will receive an account credit at the end of the basketball season. Coaches will be expected to participate in the player evaluations; coaches will evaluate players and also draft their teams. There will be a coaches meeting prior to the season starting. Player evaluations will be conducted by coaches on Saturday, December 1. In an effort to better form teams players are strongly encouraged to attend the evaluation day. There will be a $20 charge for participants that drop once the draft has been completed along with any costs incurred for uniform. Children will gain knowledge of the game in a fun environment through drills and games. Size 3 balls are provided. The first session will be held in the Recreation Center Gym; the second session, some classes will be held outdoors, so please dress children appropriately. For the second session, some classes may be held outdoors, so dress children appropriately. No class March 29.
