2 Any coating systems in contact with drinking water shall take into account the water contact<br />

requirements set out in relevant Authorities approval <strong>for</strong> such materials.<br />

3 The use <strong>of</strong> zinc-rich paints on <strong>stainless</strong> <strong>steel</strong>s shall be avoided.<br />

4 The attachment <strong>of</strong> features such as identity tags or earth continuity leads to <strong>stainless</strong> <strong>steel</strong><br />

components shall be agreed with the Contractor, especially if made post-installation.<br />

5 The components in direct contact with the <strong>stainless</strong> <strong>steel</strong> shall be made <strong>of</strong> a grade <strong>of</strong> <strong>stainless</strong><br />

<strong>steel</strong> (or other material) matching (or not compromising) the corrosion per<strong>for</strong>mance <strong>of</strong> the<br />

parent material <strong>and</strong> fitted in such a way as to minimise crevices. If stud or tack welding is<br />

used, a clean finish is essential <strong>and</strong> the heat input shall be adjusted to minimise heat tinting on<br />

the inaccessible inner side <strong>of</strong> the component.<br />

CP 4.5 Inspection<br />

Inspection levels <strong>for</strong> components <strong>and</strong> welded joints, together with the weld acceptance criteria, shall<br />

be as given in the relevant design st<strong>and</strong>ard or as otherwise agreed in the contract.<br />

CP 4.6 Cleaning<br />

Surfaces in contact with treated water must be cleaned, disinfected <strong>and</strong> flushed in accordance with the<br />

requirements <strong>of</strong> the water supplier be<strong>for</strong>e being brought into service. The cleaning agents <strong>and</strong><br />

disinfectants shall be suitable <strong>for</strong> use with <strong>stainless</strong> <strong>steel</strong>.<br />
