~ ~ involvement in, or witnessing of a serious accident; and
~ ~ witnessing or being the victim of a serious crime.
and this has impacted on the student (these cases should be supported by police or psychologists’ reports).
If a student ceases attending a course or does not return from leave, and/or is unable to be contacted, under
Section 19(1) of the ESOS Act, TSS will notify DIAC via PRISMS of termination of the students studies within
14 days of the event via a Student Course Variation. TSS in this instance does not have to give students access to
the appeals process. Students would not be entitled to a refund unless at the discretion of the Headmaster.
Procedure
Class teachers must mark the roll at the minimum - every day.
Any unexplained/unknown absences are followed up by Student Services by way of a phone call to the Boarding
Master or parent/guardian.
Late arrivals will be marked as Late for School.
All absences due to illness require Medical Certificate and approval from parent/guardian.
Students not attending for at least 90% of the scheduled contact hours, will be issued a warning letter (Attendance
Level 1 Warning 1) and called to a meeting with his Housemaster and Dean of Students, at which he will be
counselled and assisted to improve his attendance. The School will also contact the student’s parents/guardians
and will be notified of the consequences should attendance fall below 80% and offered assistance/counselling.
A student falling below the 85% attendance level in any study period (one semester/ or two consecutive terms)
will be issued with a warning letter (Attendance Level 2 Warning 1) and called to a meeting with his Housemaster
and Dean of Students. At this meeting the student will warned again of the consequences should their attendance
fall to 80% and offered assistance/counselling.
If a student’s attendance reaches 80% or less a first warning letter (Attendance Level 3 Warning 1) and ‘Notice of
Intention to Report’ will be issued advising of TSS’s intention to report the student to DIAC for breach of visa
condition 8202, and that he has 20 working days in which to access the School’s internal complaints and appeals
process.
If a student chooses NOT to access the complaints and appeals processes within the 20 working day period,
withdraws from the process or the process is completed and the decision is in support of TSS, TSS will notify the
Secretary of DIAC via PRISMS that the student is not achieving satisfactory attendance as soon as practicable.
All phone conversations, letters, interview must be kept on the student file.
