NEWPORT is probably<br />
one of Shropshire’s<br />
best kept<br />
secrets. Although it<br />
is part of the area covered by<br />
Telford and <strong>Wrekin</strong> Borough<br />
Council, it is several miles<br />
outside the boundary of<br />
Telford new town, so is very<br />
much a separate entity. And<br />
justifiably proud of that fact.<br />
It’s still very much a traditional<br />
market town in the<br />
old-fashioned sense of the<br />
term and does feature an<br />
exceptionally large market<br />
square, laid out when the<br />
town was new. And Market<br />
Day is still Friday as it has<br />
been for generations.<br />
As well as the usual offering<br />
of solicitors, estate<br />
agents, medical practices<br />
and dental surgeries there<br />
is a wide and rather eclectic<br />
range of retailers including<br />
boutiques, clothing shops,<br />
book shops, hairdressers,<br />
fitness centres, alternative<br />
health practitioners, nurseries<br />
and plantsmen, a department<br />
store, pubs, restaurants,<br />
teas rooms from the<br />
old fashioned to the modern,<br />
but all with the same high degree<br />
of service and the high<br />
level of customer service.<br />
And Newport Farmers’<br />
market happens on the third<br />
Thursday from 9am - 2pm.<br />
There are also a wide<br />
range of clubs and associations<br />
providing a variety of<br />
cultural and sporting events<br />
for the youngest to the oldest.<br />
