THIS YEAR’S RECORD
ENROLLMENTS NOT ONLY
BROUGHT DEMAND FOR TRADITIONAL
ACADEMIC INSTRUCTION, BUT
ALSO FOR SUPPORT SERVICES THAT
ENCOURAGE AND ENABLE STUDENT
SUCCESS.
This year, in order to expedite some of these services and make them
more easily accessible, Student Express Centers were developed on the
Cranford, Elizabeth, and Plainfield campuses. Each Center is fully
equipped with state-of-the-art computers and printers where students can
access UCC’s online “e-Services” to secure required forms, submit applications
for admission and financial aid or satisfy outstanding balances
they may have with the College. In addition, “e-services” were extended to
all students, allowing them access to this support from any computer anywhere
that is equipped with an Internet Browser.
The previously named “Hispanic Support Center” located on the Elizabeth
campus, was reorganized and renamed the “Center for Student Success, “
signaling the extension of its services to the
entire student community.
During the year, in conjunction with the
Faculty, a technological process was developed
to eliminate manual grading and implement
online grading. Faculty were trained in
the process in anticipation of the official
launch of this project scheduled for the conclusion
of the Fall 2007 semester.
Over 20,000 financial aid applications were
processed this year and close to
$14,000,000 in financial aid was awarded to
students. Almost 26,000 students applied
through or were contacted by UCC regarding
financial aid eligibility.
UCC’s Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF)
once again affirmed its leadership position
within the state when the New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund Board
of Directors and the Commission on Higher Education
recognized seven 2007 graduates with Outstanding
Academic Achievement Awards. In addition, Dr.
Robert St. Amand, Senior Professor of Chemistry,
was named “EOF Champion” for his dedication, advocacy,
and commitment to the spirit and intent of EOF.
He has also provided years of leadership and
direct participation with the students above and
beyond his and their normal work assignments
and responsibilities.
