Ass<strong>is</strong>tant Coach Clive Terrelonge<br />

Clive Terrelonge <strong>is</strong> in h<strong>is</strong> second season as an Ass<strong>is</strong>tant Women’s <strong>Track</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Field</strong> Coach. Terrelonge completed a successful year as the <strong>Huskies</strong>’ sprints/<br />

hurdles coach in 2004-05. H<strong>is</strong> knowledge <strong>and</strong> experience as a former international<br />

athlete helped the <strong>Huskies</strong> to take a big step in the BIG EAST Conference.<br />

Coaching several athletes to All-BIG EAST <strong>and</strong> All-ECAC status, Terrelonge most<br />

notably helped to excel April Garner to record-breaking speeds in the 55-meter<br />

<strong>and</strong> the 100 hurdles, both for which she was a BIG EAST runner-up. Garner also<br />

set new school records in the 55 hurdles <strong>and</strong> 60 during the indoor season <strong>and</strong> set<br />

a personal best in the 200 under Terrelonge’s leadership.<br />

Prior to coming to <strong>UConn</strong>, Terrelonge worked at Brown<br />

University, <strong>and</strong> h<strong>is</strong> alma mater, Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.<br />

During h<strong>is</strong> tenure at Brown, he helped guide the<br />

team from the middle of the pack in the Ivy League in 2002<br />

to a second place fi n<strong>is</strong>h in 2004. Over those two years, h<strong>is</strong><br />

sprinters broke two school records that stood for over ten<br />

years in the 100 <strong>and</strong> the 110 hurdles. In 2004, the team had<br />

its fi rst women’s Ivy League champion in the 100 in over<br />

six years. At Lincoln, Terrelonge helped lead the women’s<br />

squad to a NCAA Div<strong>is</strong>ion III Championship <strong>and</strong> produced<br />

eight All-American sprinters/hurdlers that year. Also during<br />

h<strong>is</strong> time as an ass<strong>is</strong>tant at Lincoln, the men captured six<br />

NCAA indoor <strong>and</strong> outdoor titles <strong>and</strong> two runner-up trophies.<br />

The men’s sprinters also set fi ve NCAA records <strong>and</strong> earned<br />

the 4x400 relay. He <strong>is</strong> a former NCAA double 400 <strong>and</strong> triple<br />

800 indoor/outdoor champion <strong>and</strong> still holds the 800 NCAA<br />

Div<strong>is</strong>ion III outdoor record. Terrelonge served as captain for<br />

Lincoln from 1991 through 1993 <strong>and</strong> received h<strong>is</strong> Bachelor<br />

of Science degree in health <strong>and</strong> physical education from<br />

Lincoln in 1994.<br />

Terrelonge was inducted into the NCAA Div<strong>is</strong>ion III <strong>Track</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>Field</strong> Hall of Fame at the NCAA Div<strong>is</strong>ion III Outdoor<br />

National <strong>Track</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Field</strong> Championship Banquet in Waverly,<br />

Iowa on Wednesday, May 25, 2005. The United States <strong>Track</strong><br />

Coaches Association selected three former athletes <strong>and</strong> a<br />

former coach with Terrelonge for the 2005 induction.<br />

While competing for Lincoln University, Terrelonge earned<br />

19 Div<strong>is</strong>ion III All-America honors in the 400, the 800 <strong>and</strong><br />

20 05-06 UCONN WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD/CROSS COUNTRY 4
