International students may only qualify for preferential tuition if you intend to stay<br />

in <strong>the</strong> United States permanently. All nonresident visa holders, including, but not<br />

limited to, holders <strong>of</strong> student (F), diplomatic (A), foreign organization (G) and<br />

skilled worker (H-1B) visas, are ineligible for preferential tuition.<br />

Undergraduate and Graduate Students<br />

Non-citizens may be eligible for preferential tuition rates if <strong>the</strong>y have immigrant<br />

status (i.e., permanent resident), or have filed a petition for adjustment<br />

to immigrant status at least 90 days prior to registration and:<br />

Are married to a citizen or immigrant <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> U.S. and are <strong>the</strong> beneficiary<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> spouse’s petition for immigrant status;<br />

Have a child who is a U.S. citizen born prior to January 1, 1977, and<br />

have filed an application for adjustment to immigrant status prior to<br />

January 1, 1977;<br />

Have a child who is a U.S. citizen at least 21 years <strong>of</strong> age;<br />

Have an approved petition for immigrant status from <strong>the</strong> U.S.<br />

Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS);<br />

Have evidence that an adjustment to immigrant status has been<br />

applied for as a result <strong>of</strong> his employment in an area determined to be<br />

in short supply in <strong>the</strong> U.S.; or<br />

Are <strong>the</strong> dependent child <strong>of</strong> a bona fide domiciliary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Columbia</strong>.<br />

Special Residency Requirement for Military Personnel<br />

UDC Resolution No. 88-67 authorizes nonresident active duty military<br />

personnel and dependents to pay resident tuition at <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>District</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Columbia</strong>.<br />

The military ID MUST be presented at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> registration.<br />

VACCINATIONS/IMMUNIZATIONS<br />

<strong>District</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Columbia</strong> Immunization Law 3-20 requires any student under<br />

<strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 27, who is enrolled in a primary, secondary or post secondary<br />

school <strong>of</strong> higher education (college or university), to submit pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> immunization<br />

as follows:<br />

Two (2) doses <strong>of</strong> measles, mumps and rubella vaccines (commonly known<br />

as MMR), given at least 30 days apart, or copies <strong>of</strong> blood tests showing<br />

immunity to measles, mumps and rubella.<br />

One booster for tetanus/diph<strong>the</strong>ria (Td) within <strong>the</strong> last 10 years.<br />

Three doses <strong>of</strong> hepatitis B vaccine. The second dose should be given one<br />

month after <strong>the</strong> first dose, and <strong>the</strong> third dose should be five months after <strong>the</strong><br />

second. A positive blood test for hepatitis B is also acceptable.<br />

Two varicella (chicken pox) vaccines if <strong>the</strong> first dose was given after age 12<br />

or a positive blood test for varicella.<br />

A recent PPD skin test for tuberculosis is encouraged.<br />

Students under <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 18 must also show pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> polio immunization.<br />

STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE<br />

The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>District</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Columbia</strong> mandates health insurance<br />

coverage for all students. Students must purchase <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>'s accident<br />

and illness plan or show pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> personal health insurance coverage every<br />

semester. The nonrefundable insurance premium is collected or waived<br />

at each registration period (fall, spring and summer). If a student fails to<br />

show pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> insurance, he or she will be charged <strong>the</strong> premium for <strong>the</strong><br />

registration period.<br />

During registration, students should visit www.maksin.com/udc.aspx on<br />

any computer to find out information regarding <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> health insurance<br />

plan or complete <strong>the</strong> Online Waiver form to show pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> insurance.<br />

Students who wish to enroll in <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> plan simply pay <strong>the</strong> premium<br />

when paying for classes.<br />
