Kentucky. In SEC regular-season play, he’s 134-
47 (.740), the third-best league win percentage of
all-time. He’s captured five SEC Championships
and seven SEC Eastern Division crowns in nine
seasons in the Bluegrass. He also owns a 23-6
record in 11 SEC Tournaments, winning five
titles.
CATS’ D LEADS TO SUCCESS
When Kentucky returned from Maui after losing
a pair of games to UCLA and Memphis,
Tubby Smith emphasized the need to play better
defense. Since then, UK has won 12 of 14 games
and has held the opposition below 40 percent
shooting in 12 of those 14 contests.
Wildcat foes were shooting 45 percent from
the field in the first five games, but have made
only 35 percent in the 14 games since.
In addition the Wildcats’ rebounding numbers
have seen a jump. UK averaged 32.0 rebounds
per game through the first five games, but has
averaged 40.1 over the last 14 games.
MORE FLOOR TIME, MORE MORRIS
Early in his career, Randolph Morris’ playing
time was often limited due to foul trouble. This
season, however, the Wildcats have seen more of
Morris on the floor. His minutes played average
has increased from 19.8 as a freshman, to 24.4 as
a sophomore to 28.4 this season.
Morris’ increased minutes can be directly attributed
to a decrease in his foul rate. As a freshman,
Morris committed a foul every 6.6 minutes on the
court. This year, that figure is 14.6.
UNPARALLELED TRADITION
The Wildcats own an unparalleled tradition
national championship was an NIT title in 1946.
The first NCAA title came in 1948 and the latest,
No. 7, occurred in 1998. No other program can
claim the unparalleled success that matches the
Wildcats’ efforts over the past century.
