Tensiometer T5 Corpus Shaft The T5 Tensiometer is specially made for punctual measurements, for example in soil columns, small lysimeters or pots. With an active surface of only 0,5 cm 2 and a diameter of 5 mm the ceramic tip has all advantages of small dimensions: little soil disturbance, punctual pick-up and fast response. The special version T5x can achieve a measuring range of 200 kPa. The T5 can be installed in any position and orientation. Bubbles are easily detectable through the transparent shaft. If your task is soil water monitoring you know the problem: water vaporizes and is lost. If soil gets dryer than about 85 kPa, no tensiometer is able to take measurements. Still, as only little water movements occur in extreme dry soil, losing readings is tolerable. Then, when the soil gets wet again, the Tensiometer could actually restart measurements - but first it needs to be refilled again. Now, the TS1 solves this problem: In case the cup needs to be refilled and soil water is available the internal pump will draw up water out of the soil, refill the cup and remove all air through an exhaust outlet - fully automatically. Even if only a bubble is detected the cup is deaerated automatically. Contrariwise, if the temperature probe indicates emerging frost, the TS1 empties itself to prevent damages caused by freezing. For extended measuring tasks like large number of Tensiometers the TS1 can be bus linked. The configuration of pumping intervals, pumping volume, installation angle etc. is done by PC connection or with an INFIELD7b. If no correct readings are available an error message is registered. This ensures the data integrity. Pore water sampler When used as an intelligent pore water sampler the water drawn up from the soil is not removed through the exhaust but stored inside the shaft. Regulated by the controller, the water is extracted with a pressure that is slightly higher than the current soil water tension measured by the TS1. Thus, soil disturbance, filtration effects, lime accumulation or pH-value shifts are prevented. The intervals for automatic sampling as well as the sample amount can be set in the controller. Current consumption for measurements is less than 1 mA, for pump operation less than 10 mA.
