Criminal Justice Responses to TIP: Challenges, Developments and Opportunities in
ASEAN, Dr. Anish Kumar Roy, Director of the Office of Coordination, Bureau for
External Relations and Coordination, ASEAN Secretariat
This presentation will explore recent developments within ASEAN and in the ASEAN
region in relation to criminal justice responses to TIP. The speaker will also focus on future
opportunities and challenges. The ASEAN practitioner guidelines (adopted by SOMTC in
June 2007) will be presented to the Workshop as one recent example of movement
towards common standards and approaches in the investigation, prosecution and
adjudication of TIP cases.

trafficking in persons - drawing on international and regional legal and policy standards as
well as national trends in law, policy and practice. The session is intended to provide an
overall conceptual framework for the issues to be considered in detail during the workshop
including investigation, prosecution and adjudication of TIP cases.
