6 Days / 5 nights from Launceston<br />

Day 1: Explore Launceston<br />

Head north to the Tamar Valley Wine Route and enjoy lunch in a vineyard<br />

restaurant and sample some of their fine cool climate wines. Visit the Tamar<br />

Island Wetlands, where a variety of water birds gather just off the highway.<br />

Take a tour of Seahorse <strong>World</strong>, the only Seahorse farm of its kind in the world.<br />

Visit Beaconsfield and learn the history of local gold mining at the Mine and<br />

Heritage Centre. Cross the Tamar on the Batman Bridge and visit the historic<br />

lighthouse and pilot station at Low Head and perhaps spot some penguins<br />

and even seals. Overnight Launceston<br />

Day 2: Launceston – Bicheno (Distance 237km – 3 hours 30 minutes)<br />

Head to the East Coast winding your way past the forests leading to the<br />

coast line filled with sandy bays for you to explore. Visit Bay of Fires where<br />

pure white sand beaches and aqua water stretches for miles. Visit St Helens,<br />

known as the game fishing capital of Tasmania, and try your luck at fishing.<br />

Take a walk out to St Helens Point where it will lead you to the spectacular<br />

Peron Dunes and the ocean beach. Follow the coastal road heading further<br />

south taking in the ocean views on one side and the forest reserves on the<br />

other until you reach Bicheno. Visit the East Coast Natureworld 8km north of<br />

Bicheno for a chance to see Tasmanian devils, wombats, pademelons, and<br />

birdlife, many in their natural environment.<br />

Overnight East Coast (Bicheno, Swansea or Coles Bay)<br />

Day 3: Explore the wonders and beauty of the East Coast – At Freycinet<br />

Discover Freycinet National Park on foot on one of the many trails throughout<br />

the park that lead to unforgettable views such as looking down to Wineglass<br />

Bay. A little further along the way you will end up at Hazards Beach named<br />

after the huge granite outcrops. If you don’t feel like walking then you can also<br />

see it all from the water with a Sea Cruise. Visit the Freycinet Marine Farm and<br />

see how oysters are farmed and sample some fresh straight from the water.<br />

Overnight East Coast<br />

Day 4: East Coast – Hobart (Distance 178km – 2 hours 30 minutes)<br />

<strong>Travel</strong> down towards Hobart along the Heritage Highway with a small detour in<br />

Oatlands. See the vast collection of sandstone buildings, the largest collection<br />

of old cottages in Australia which are now cafes, antique stores or restaurants<br />

and the towns Callington Mill built back in 1837, which has been restored and<br />

produces flour. Stop in Richmond on route to Hobart. Walk across Australia’s<br />

oldest bridge built by convict labour between 1823-1825 or tour the Richmond<br />

Goal, Australia’s oldest jail. Wonder the streets and pass by the 19th Century<br />

Georgian buildings or have a look inside one of the many art galleries.<br />

Overnight Hobart<br />

Day 5: Visit the Huon Valley<br />

Explore south of Hobart today and head for the Huon Valley and see the ever<br />

changing landscapes as you drive past. Get your heart racing on a jet boat<br />

ride up the Huon River or explore it at a more leisurely pace in a paddleboat.<br />

Soar above the forest at Tahune Airwalk, 500m of elevated forest walk up to<br />

50m above the forest floor. Overnight Hobart<br />

Day 6: Explore Hobart and surrounds<br />

Head down to Salamanca Place where you will find 19th century waterfront<br />

warehouses dating back to the 1830’s whaling days. They have now been<br />

turned into cafes, restaurants, galleries and art studios. If you are staying over<br />

a Saturday the Salamanca Market is a must visit. Visit the well known and<br />

famous MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) 15 minutes from downtown by<br />

car or take a ferry. It houses a wide range of exhibits from ancient Egyptian<br />

mummies to contemporary art.<br />
