At Swinburne Sarawak, we have a system that awards scholarships and financial aid to deserving students. 

If you have enrolled as a student with the University and have good results in SPM, STPM, UEC or equivalent, 

you may apply for a scholarship*. 

Swinburne Sarawak Academic Excellence 

Scholarship (Foundation Entrance) 

The Swinburne Sarawak Academic Excellence Scholarship 

(Foundation Entrance) is awarded to students who are newly enrolled 

into foundation programs and who had achieved excellent results in 

SPM and/or GCE ‘O’ Levels or equivalent in the current year. 

Eligibility 

SPM school leavers: 

Level 1: 6As – 7As 

Level 2: 8As – 9As 

Level 3: 10As 

Level 4: 8A+ and above 

GCE ‘O’ Level school leavers: 

Level 1: 4As 

Level 2: 5As 

Level 3: 6As 

Minimum of 6 subjects must be taken 

Indonesia SMU II school leavers – average grade of: 

Level 1: 8.0 and above

Criteria 

The scholarship is based on the actual academic result. 

The scholarship will be disbursed equally as program fee rebates in 

the current and subsequent term. 

For the scholarship to be carried forward to the 1st year of degree, 

the student must pass all units and maintain a CGPA of 3.7 while in 

foundation. 

The student must pass all units in the 1st year of degree to be eligible 

for a 20% waiver in tuition fee. 

For the scholarship to be carried forward to the 2nd year of degree, 

the student must pass all units and maintain a CGPA of 3.7 while in 

the 1st year. 

A waiver of 20% in tuition fee will be given in subsequent terms until 

the completion of the program on the condition that student passes 

all units and maintains a CGPA of 3.7 in each term.

Entrance) is awarded to students who are newly enrolled into degree

Criteria 

The scholarship is based on the actual academic result. 

For the scholarship to progress to 2nd year, the student must pass 

all units and maintain a CGPA of 3.7 in the 1st year. 

A waiver of 20% in tuition fee will be given in the 2nd year and 

subsequent terms until the completion of the program on the 

condition that student passes all units and maintains a CGPA 

of 3.7 in each term. 

Swinburne Sarawak Pathway Scholarship 

The Swinburne Sarawak Pathway Scholarship is applicable to 

graduates of Swinburne Sarawak’s foundation and diploma programs 

entering into its degree program. 

Eligibility 

The student must maintain a CGPA of 3.7 and above throughout the 

foundation and diploma program. 


20% fee waiver each term throughout the duration of the chosen degree 

program. 

Criteria 

For the scholarship to progress into the 2nd year, the student must 

pass all units of study in the 1st year and attain a CGPA of 3.7 and 

above. 



PVC Academic Excellence Award 

The PVC Academic Excellence Award is awarded to foundation and 

degree students enrolled from 2011 onwards and who have not 

received any scholarships from Swinburne Sarawak or other bodies. 

Eligibility 

Foundation Level 

Awarded to Foundation program student who attain at least 4 high 

distinctions in all units of study in a full term load. 

Degree Level 

Awarded to Degree program student who attain at least 4 high 

distinctions in all units of study in a full term load. 


Foundation Level 

Fee waiver of RM1,000.00 and a certificate of excellence. 

Degree Level 

Fee waiver of RM2,000.00 and a certificate of excellence. 

Criteria 

The scholarship will be awarded on a one-off basis. 

Swinburne Sarawak Sports and Leadership 

The Sports and Leadership Award is awarded to secondary school 

leavers who are newly enrolled into a foundation or diploma program 

and who have excelled academically and/or in co-curricular activities 

in secondary school. 

Eligibility 

This scholarship is awarded subject to the discretion of the university

Criteria 

This scholarship is based on actual academic result of the applicant 

and recommendation of the applicant’s school principal. 

Terms and Conditions for Swinburne scholarship 

application 

General terms 

1. The scholarship application form must be completed, signed and attached 

with the required documents. Any incomplete application may result in the 

application being rejected. 

2. Students who are eligible but fail to apply for the scholarship by the closing 

date will not be entertained. 

3. Scholarships will be awarded to qualified students one month after the closing 

date. 

4. Student is only entitled to one scholarship from any organisation. 

5. Student must be enrolled with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak 

Campus. 

6. The University shall not be responsible for application forms that are 

misplaced, lost or that do not reach the designated department of the 

University. 

7. All scholarship awards are to be given as program fee rebates only and cannot 

be exchanged for cash. 

8. Scholarship will be forfeited if the student withdraws from the program or 

transfers to Swinburne, Australia. 

9. The scholarship is non-transferable. 

10.The scholarship will be forfeited if the recipient fails to meet the academic 

requirements stipulated in the respective scholarship scheme, and will not be 

reinstated. 

11. The decision of the University is final. No appeals will be considered. 

Swinburne Sarawak Academic Excellence Scholarship 

Foundation Level: Student must pass all units of study while in foundation. For 

the scholarship to be carried forward to the 1st year of degree, the student must 

pass all units and maintain a CGPA of 3.7 while in Foundation. 

Degree Level: Student must pass all units of study in the 1st year of degree. 

For the scholarship to progress to 2nd year, the student must maintain a CGPA 

of 3.7 in the 1st year. Scholarship is applicable in subsequent terms and until 

the completion of the program on the condition that student passes all units and 

maintains a CGPA of 3.7 in each term. 

Swinburne Sarawak Pathway Scholarship 

Applicable to foundation and diploma graduates entering into Swinburne Sarawak’s 

degree programs. Student must pass all units of study in the 1st year of degree. 

For the scholarship to progress to 2nd year, the student must maintain a CGPA 

of 3.7 in the 1st year. Scholarship is applicable in subsequent terms and until 

the completion of the program on the condition that student passes all units and 

maintains a CGPA of 3.7 in each term. 

PVC Academic Excellence Award 

Applicable to all foundation and degree students enrolled from 2011 onwards. 

Have not received any scholarships from Swinburne Sarawak or other bodies. 

Applicant must score high distinctions in all units of study in a full term load. The 

scholarship will be awarded on a one-off basis. 

Swinburne Sarawak Sports and Leadership Award 

Applicable to secondary school leavers who have excelled academically and/or in 

co-curricular activities. 

Scholarship is based on actual academic results of the applicant and on 

recommendations from applicant’s school principal.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS 

JPA Federal Scholarship 

Eligibility 

Must be a Malaysian. 

Must obtain 9A+ and above in SPM. 

Application 

Eligible students must apply online via www.jpa.gov.my or 

http://esilav2.jpa.gov.my and complete all the required fields. 

Tunku Abdul Rahman scholarship 

Eligibility 

Must be a Malaysian (priority to Sarawakians). 

Full-time students undertaking degree, masters or doctorate 

program. 

Grade B in each subject in STPM or CGPA of 3.00 and above for 

Foundation students enrolled in degree program and students within 

the degree program. 

Excellent academic results and actively involved in co-curricular 

activities. 

Must not have been offered other scholarships. 

Only short-listed candidates will be called for interview. 

Availability 

The Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship is usually advertised in local 

newspapers each year from March until end of July.

Subject to terms and conditions as stipulated by Daiken Scholarship. 


RM11,000.00 per annum

Sarawak Timber Association (STA) 

Scholarship 

Eligibility 

Must be Sarawakian Bumiputra. 

Must be enrolled in Diploma of Electronic Engineering. 

Subject to terms and conditions as stipulated by STA Scholarship. 


RM11,000.00 per annum 

Availability

Excelled in extra-curricular activities or sports. 

Must not be bonded to or in receipt of any financial aid or awards 

from other educational organisations or financial institutions. 

Obtained a letter of offer to the program. 

Scholarship recipients shall maintain academic results of at least 

70% each term to be entitled to scholarship for the next term. 

Scholarship recipients shall contribute to Swinburne Sarawak’s 

marketing and recruitment activities during their period of study at 

the University.

MARA Study Loan 

Eligibility 

Must be a Bumiputra (either parent of applicant must be a 

Bumiputra). 

Bachelor degree level: 

Must obtain a credit in Bahasa Melayu in SPM, and 3 principals 

inclusive of General Paper or 2 principals inclusive of General 

Paper plus 2 subsidiary or other equivalent qualifications in 

STPM. 

Foundation level: 

SPM or its equivalent with 5 credits – Bahasa Melayu, 

Mathematics plus 3 other subjects (inclusive of English and 2 

other subjects approved by the University). 

Must achieve and maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.0 in each term 

throughout the course of study. 

Must apply online via MARA website, http://eduloan.mara.gov.my 

and complete all required fields. 

Supporting documents must to be submitted by 31st July through 

university.

Sarawak Higher Education Fund (Hi-Ed) 

Eligibility 

Must be a Sarawakian. 

Applicable for foundation, diploma and degree (Engineering major) 

students of Swinburne Sarawak. 

Must have received a letter of offer from Swinburne Sarawak. 

Have not been offered any other loans. 

Must complete the program applied for in Swinburne Sarawak.

Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi 

Nasional (PTPTN) 

Eligibility 

Must be a Malaysian. 

Applicable for diploma and degree programs. 

Must have received a letter of offer from Swinburne Sarawak. 

Must be a full-time student. 

Subject to terms and conditions of PTPTN. 

Application procedures 

The student must purchase a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from 

Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN). The PIN costs RM5.00 and is valid for 

six months from the date of purchase. 

With the PIN, the applicant must then register for the online application. 

Certified supporting documents is to be submitted only after the 

application is successful. 


Maximum of RM16,000 per annum for degree and diploma in 

Business, IT and Multimedia Programs 

Maximum of RM16,500 per annum for a degree and diploma in 

Engineering and Science programs. 

Application Date and Announcement of Result. 

For each term, there are two closing dates 

For Term 1, the closing dates are 15th February and 15th March. 

For Term 2, the closing dates are 15th September and 15th October. 

Results of the loan application is made available five days after the 

closing dates. 

EPF Withdrawal Scheme 

Eligibility 

EPF members and /or EPF members’ children. 

Applicable for Diploma and Degree programs. 

Applicants are to liaise directly with the nearest EPF office. 


Application forms can be obtained from any EPF office. 

Value of award 

Up to the total tuition fees, or the entire balance in Account II, which 

ever is lower. 

Members may apply for withdrawal in each academic year provided 

there are sufficient funds in Account II.
