SCHOOL BULLETIN
For Friday, March 11, 2011
FOR STAFF MEMBERS/TEACHERS:
Kudos to Mr. Hardy and Mr. Quiambao on attending the district’s Technology Committee Meeting and representing our school! Go Sharks!
Elevator Use: Teachers, please monitor the elevator doors until they close. Students are jumping into the elevator after teachers leave the area. We need
your assistance in monitoring the use of the elevator. Thank you!
Monitoring: ATTN TEACHERS: Please continue to monitor students leaving your classes by the issuing of hall passes. Property damage and graffiti
statistics are down and is directly attributed to students NOT roaming the hallways. On a side note, please report students to the office for carrying permanent
markers, especially the big ones. This is a 3-day suspension if the markers are not for a class project.
Hall Passes: Please ensure your students are given HALL PASSES for lunch activities taking place in the main building and if they need to leave the
classroom during class time. Information needed on the pass is the student’s name, date, time, where they are coming from, where they are going, and your
name and signature. Your assistance in ensuring this is done will help us identify students that are skipping while we do our “sweeps” of the hallways.
Reminder: One student per hall pass AT ALL TIMES!
Food/Drink Sales (If selling food/drinks to students DURING INSTRUCTIONAL TIME OR LUNCH, it must STOP): AGAIN, it has been brought to
our attention that several clubs/advisors are selling drinks, snacks or food during lunch and instructional time to students. Because we are under close
scrutiny by the auditors and because of the stipulations in the department’s contract with King’s, we are asking all clubs/advisors to refrain from selling items
to students in the morning and during lunch and instructional time. Items may be sold only after school after approval has been granted by the Activities
Coordinator and Finance Board. AGAIN, if caught, your club’s selling privileges will be suspended and appropriate employee discipline procedures will be
handed down!!!!
FOR STUDENTS/EVERYONE:
SSHS students went to Adelup to witness Governor Calvo signing Bill 44-31 into law. They went through the whole process of the hearing, letters,
petitions, campaigning, reading the Bill, watching the debate at the legislature, watching the vote that was unanimous, spreading the word at schools and
presentations at elementary schools, and yesterday Governor Calvo signed Bill 44-31 into law making Guam the 3rd place in the whole WORLD to ban
shark fins!!! Way to Go, Sharks!
Attention STUDENTS (Mural Contest): We would like to remove the painting of candy in front of the school and replace it with another that truly
represents Simon Sanchez High School. If interested in having your painting in front of our school, please draw or sketch your design on paper and submit to
Mr. Canos in Room 104 or to the front office. A committee will decide on the winner. Family Dental Center, the business which buys the Pacific Daily
News for the social studies classes, would like to donate the paint. Please note that as you drive by the school, you get a 2 second glimpse of the Simon
Sanchez statue and what ever is painted behind it. Good luck!!
Attention STUDENTS (Track & Field Tryouts): Track and Field try-outs started on March 1st and are on-going. Practices are afterschool at 4:30pm
Attention STUDENTS (Varsity Letter): All student athletes earn a varsity letter from the PE Department for playing the whole season in a varsity sport.
Please see your coach for the varsity letter. If you have not returned your sporting equipment issued to you by the school, you will not receive a letter. In
addition, the total cost of your non-returned equipment will be treated like a lost textbook. The cost will be forwarded to the Business Office and you will
have to pay for it before you receive your diploma prior to graduation, or before transcripts can be released if you leave the school.
Attention EVERYONE (Need Aluminum Cans): We need your aluminum cans! I-Recycle will take our aluminum bin away from SSHS and give it to
another school if we don't make the effort to collect aluminum cans to fill up the bin. There is a pick-up scheduled for Monday. Let's fill up the bin and prove
that we do our part in recycling! As a reminder, nothing must be in the bin except for aluminum cans. No plastic!
