Overview of Results<br />

The ERTR Programme has achieved significant results towards its Programme<br />

Outputs in the first year of the Programme. The following is an overview of the<br />

results of the ERTR within the first year:<br />

• More than 27 schools cleared of debris <strong>and</strong> rehabilitated<br />

• Over 134,000 m3 of tsunami generate waste cleared though Dinas Kebersihan<br />

project<br />

• Over 22,250 m3 municipal waste collected<br />

• 28 damaged buildings demolished through public demolition service in<br />

B<strong>and</strong>a <strong>Aceh</strong><br />

2. <strong>Recovery</strong> of livelihoods • Over 16,000 beneficiaries of current livelihoods activities<br />

• New activities contracted that will benefit over 30,000 by June 2006<br />

• Activities underway in 6 districts addressing Fisheries, Aquaculture, Shrimp<br />

farming, Agriculture, Animal Husb<strong>and</strong>ry, Income generation, Small Enterprises,<br />

Home Industries, <strong>and</strong> Vocational training<br />

• Port rehabilitation strategy prepared for BRR<br />

• Ulee Lheu port in B<strong>and</strong>a <strong>Aceh</strong> re-opened for operations on 8 December<br />

• Engineering designs <strong>and</strong> investigations for reconstruction of ports Calang,<br />

Sinabang, Gunung Sitoli, <strong>and</strong> Lamno being initiated<br />

• Livelihoods recovery working group active <strong>and</strong> operational with Government,<br />

civil society <strong>and</strong> UN agencies since January<br />

3. <strong>Recovery</strong> of housing,<br />

settlements <strong>and</strong> associated<br />

infrastructure<br />

4. Strengthening governance<br />

capacity for sustainable<br />

recovery <strong>and</strong><br />

risk-reduction<br />

• 4,790 tents distributed to IDPs <strong>and</strong> returning IDPs<br />

• More than 1,900 housing units planned to be completed or under construction<br />

by end December 2005<br />

• Joint study with OXFAM in L<strong>and</strong> Rights undertaken<br />

• Support for BPN/World Bank RALAS project including trainings benefiting<br />

over 750 community mapping facilitators<br />

• Support for formulation of housing <strong>and</strong> settlement guidelines <strong>and</strong> policies<br />

• TA for drafting of policy on renters <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> policy, <strong>and</strong> preparation for<br />

consultation with district authorities<br />

• 100,000 leaflets prepared by BRR, <strong>UNDP</strong> <strong>and</strong> UN-HABITAT on housing<br />

/ l<strong>and</strong> rights <strong>and</strong> entitlements<br />

• Shelter Coordination Working Group active <strong>and</strong> operational with Government,<br />

civil society <strong>and</strong> UN agencies participating<br />

• Ten technical advisors provided for early Government reconstruction planning<br />

process<br />

• Support for establishment of BRR Anti-Corruption Unit<br />

• Over 20 local government departments receiving direct support<br />

• Establishment of <strong>Recovery</strong> <strong>Aceh</strong>-Nias (RAN) Database through regional<br />

<strong>UNDP</strong> project<br />

• Provincial Governance Working Group Established<br />

• Governance Workshop with BRR supported in November<br />

• 40,000 wind-up radios being delivered to improve information outreach<br />

• Civil society capacity building assessment completed through ERTR with<br />

new programme being launched<br />
