<strong>Legal</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Foreign</strong> <strong>Investors</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Brazil</strong><br />

Upon f<strong>in</strong>ally leav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Brazil</strong>, the <strong>for</strong>eigner must submit a “Declaration of F<strong>in</strong>al<br />

Departure” to the Federal Revenue Service (SRF/MF) and request cancellation<br />

of his/her taxpayer registration and tax liability. The sponsor<strong>in</strong>g company must<br />

<strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>m the M<strong>in</strong>istry of Labor when the <strong>for</strong>eigner’s employment contract is<br />

term<strong>in</strong>ated, so that the visa and registration may be canceled.<br />

11.6. Travel <strong>in</strong> Advance of Permanent or Temporary<br />

Employment<br />

Individuals travel<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>Brazil</strong> on bus<strong>in</strong>ess, prior to obta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a work permit and<br />

appropriate visa, may obta<strong>in</strong> a short-term bus<strong>in</strong>ess visa. Such a visa does not<br />

entitle them to work <strong>in</strong> <strong>Brazil</strong> or to receive payment from local sources, until<br />

the work permit and visa have been issued. Such <strong>in</strong>dividuals should obta<strong>in</strong> a<br />

Permanent or Temporary visas at the <strong>Brazil</strong>ian Consulate with jurisdiction over<br />

the <strong>in</strong>dividual’s residence.<br />

11.7. Employment of Spouses/Offspr<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Accompany<strong>in</strong>g spouses and offspr<strong>in</strong>g may rema<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Brazil</strong> as dependents of<br />

the visa holder <strong>for</strong> as long as the visa is valid. However, such dependants are<br />

not permitted to engage <strong>in</strong> employment or any paid activity while resid<strong>in</strong>g<br />

temporarily <strong>in</strong> <strong>Brazil</strong>, without first convert<strong>in</strong>g their visa to resident status.<br />
