Detroit Summer Intensive 2008
Call for “MOM” & “DAD”
Chaperones
Would you like to be an integral part of young dancers’ experiences as they study here at
Wayne State University in the American Ballet Theatre – Detroit Summer Intensive 2008?
Chaperones Contract Dates:
Thursday, June 19, 2008: Chaperones move into the dorm
through Sunday, July 20, 2008: Chaperones move out of the dorm
Application process begins now
The ABT-Detroit Summer Intensive provides around-the-clock supervision of all student
participants. While we believe that adults provide mature guidance, safety and protection of the ABT-
DSI students, it is necessary that all MOM & DAD Chaperones understand the greater mission of
caring for all students at the intensive. Being an ABT-DSI Chaperone does allow time with your child
attending; however, no MOM & DAD Chaperones will directly supervise their child within daily
activity. All Chaperones—both MOM/DAD and Student-Adult—are essential in fostering and
maintaining a fair and impartial environment.
To begin your application process, have the director(s) of your child’s dance company/school
send a letter of reference regarding their interactions with you as both parent and as a vital member of
the organization. The reference letter should specifically address the applicant’s ability to (1)
effectively contribute to the mission & operations of an organization serving the needs of a large
number of individuals (2) interface with others in a positive and proactive manner and (3) be able to
act as a leader as well as a team member among peers, students, administrators, directors, & artists.
This confidential letter of reference should be sent by the author directly to Kelly Gottesman,
General Manager, ABT-Detroit and must include the name, address, phone number and email address
of both the applicant as well as the author of the letter.
In the event that you would like to refer others, adults who do not have children attending the
ABT-DSI are also welcomed to apply through the same process.
Based upon this initial review of reference letters, those asked to continue in the process will
complete application paperwork that can be emailed or sent by mail to the applicant. Please indicate
your preferred method of communication within the letter of reference.
Applicants are considered in the order in which they are received and the hiring process will
continue until all positions are filled. MOM/DAD Chaperones who have experience in the medical
field and are comfortable driving a 15-passenger van are strongly encouraged to apply. Please direct
all questions to Kelly Gottesman, General Manager, ABT-Detroit (kellygman@wayne.edu).
