Steward's Report (Oct. 5 continued) First came the delayed Novice C/W race. Ed, very appropriately, ran the first two parade laps at a good clip to "blow offthe leaves" - the pace car was leaving some cars behind. I thought that was pretty funny! Then it was my turn. The weather was pretty darn good!! Sunday morning was great for horsepower. Group 6 was first. By Group 3 I had taken off my coat and put on my sun glasses and straw hat. Chris Bowl, the Assistant Steward, got a chance to zoom around in his turbo buggy. There was one scare when the ambulance had to attend to one of our own in the paddock. But, even that turned out pretty good-- shoulder pains happily turned out to be a dislocated shoulder. Now the serious stuff. Three things: Numbers- make them bigger. Sound- make it quieter. Friends- I made a bunch. I race Conference because of all the really great people. ICSCC racers group together to share experience, to share knowledge and to support each other. Where else do staunch competitors drive so closely and be such compatriots. That is why I love it so much and am so happy to have served. Thanks! And NO! I know nothing definitive to report about static electricity initiated fuel fires. Things, non-conductors and conductors, plastics and metal, can build up static electricity and spark. An electric charge can build up on most anything that is insulated. Skirts crackle, socks-on-a-rug can zap you, clouds spark and so can gas cans. Ifl knew what to say I would tell you. Do what you can to foul their exterior-- people say that new plastic cans are more prone to static than older ones. Wash them with liquid detergent, rub them with dirt and oil (and they will look just like mine). Don't rub them against clothing, rugs or the such.
