Remembering Robert OratwaIt is with deep regret that we report the passing of tong-time Conference marshal Robert Dratwa, ofPortland. Bill Merwin posted the news to a local racers' mail list, and I can say it no better than he:"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I tell the group of the passing of one of the racing fraternity.Robert Dratwa (Bhagwan) passed away today (July 8, 2002) in the hospital after a long illness. He was admitted to the hospital this afternoon and passed away shortly after. He was with his daughterDana at the time of his death. I will miss him ... He was what I would call a true friend to the end."Rob Jacobsen adds, "Robert practically lived at our favorite city park and I'm told has requested thathis ashes be scattered there. He will be joining the 'Dream Team' of tumworkers, along side, Zoot,Hadley, and others, keeping a close eye on our drivers."Margie Burgesser worked with him both as a driver and as a worker, and recalls, "Bob was one of theTum Marshals that, no matter how weird your turn was between races, you knew that he would stopthe silliness as soon as the call came that cars were leaving grid ... As a worker I respected himgreatly and as a racer I trusted him implicitly. I shall miss his crusty curmdungeonistic views and comments. He now joins the dream team of workers, and we all share the void his passing leaves. Many of us will remember, as does Jen Berry, that "Bob was always at Tum 4 (old 1) at PIR. I used hiscowboy hat as a reference marker... I always knew he was looking out for us, and I always felt safewhen I saw him there."Rest easy my friend - Travel with the angels."NorthwestCampbell Galt & NewlandsPartnering to deliver FULLY INTEGRATEDinsurance and financial services700 NE Multnomah Street, Suite 1300Portland, OR 97232Main (503) 224-8390Fax (503) 224-8319www.usinw.comJohn H.
