The latest update to Novation’s
MIDI-control application Automap
has been released. Automap v3.4
has an expanded on-board library
of mappings – collections of
assignments that tie knobs, faders,
and buttons of Novation hardware
to software parameters – for Logic,
Reason, and Pro Tools. This involved
completely rebuilding the mappings
system to allow for the new
additions, but now Logic,
Reason, and Pro Tools are fully
mapped, meaning that all plugins
and software instruments that
ship with the applications now
have bespoke Automap markings.
The update also includes firmware
updates for Novation’s Remote SL,
Zero SL, SL Compact, SL MkII,
and Nocturn Keyboard.

NEW LICENSEE
LOUD Technologies, the parent
company of Mackie has announced
the terms of the agreement with
Avid that licenses the use of
Mackie’s new Onyx-i Series Firewire
Recording Mixers with Avid
Pro Tools M-Powered 8 software.
Users will need to purchase the
Mackie Universal Driver upgrade
from the Mackie website. Once
the driver is downloaded and
installed, Onyx 820i, 1220i, 1620i,
and 1640i mixers can be used with
the Avid software. “For years, Mackie
customers have wanted to combine
the familiar workflow of an analogue
mixer with the world’s most popular
DAW,” commented John Boudreau,
Vice President of LOUD’s Music Gear
group. “Through our newly-signed
agreement with Avid, Mackie’s Onyx-i
mixers now make this possible.”

To Russia, With Euphonix
Russian World Studios has installed a 56-fader Euphonix System 5 in its St Petersburg
facility, with the EuCon Hybrid option for control of Pro Tools and Pyramix Digital Audio
Workstations. RWS was founded in 1998 and is one of the leading TV content and film
production companies in Russia, having been involved in more than 400 television
and film projects locally and internationally. RWS-St Petersburg was opened in 2008
with the new Dolby Premier studio opening in late 2009. “We chose the System 5
Hybrid for RWS St Petersburg because of the tremendous reputation it has gained in
the international film post production world,” said Alexey Shulga, Lead Mixer and Head
of Post Production. “The Hybrid control of Pro Tools and Pyramix speeds up our work
significantly without using all our DSP resources.”
The EuCon Hybrid option for System 5 digital audio mixing systems extends the
control capabilities of the console, enabling users to bring Mac and PC DAW tracks
onto the console surface for mixing. It uses high-speed Ethernet to communicate with
the DAWs, reducing parameter change delays and increasing resolution.
“RWS is truly a world class studio, and it is very exciting to be involved in a
completely new facility,” said Chris Hollebone, Operations Director for Euphonix Europe.

Focused On The Future
Prime Focus has installed a fourth 5.1 sound studio at its facility in Soho, London.
The suite, at 58 Old Compton Street, has 5.1 and Dolby E capabilities, and features
Digidesign Pro Tools 8 and ICON D-Control console. The studio also has a large
voiceover and Foley room, and a new audio preparation centre for multiple
tracklays, transfers, and lay-offs.

for Dolby commercials and
trailer certification. The facility
was designed and specified
by Jim Jacobs, UK Head of
Audio for Prime Focus, and
Paul Mickelthwaite, Head of
Systems Integration. Director of
Operations Michael Wrightson
was involved in technical
planning. Managing Director
Simon Briggs commented:
“Studio 4 is a key part of our ongoing investment strategy to upgrade and expand
our facilities, not only to support client demand but also with one eye on our

has relocated from North Hollywood
to the former Hanna-
Barbera animation
studios building in
Hollywood, and in the
process has expanded
the facility to include a main
mastering room and five production
rooms, with every room equipped
with either Metric Halo interfaces
or the company’s OEM units.
The studio masters projects
for Universal Music Group and
other clients, focusing mainly on
restoration and archival services.
