General Manager's message
As the year draws to a close, I reflect on the past 12 months. In more ways than one, 2011 has been a
significant year for QFleet.
We started the year facing one of the worst natural disasters in Australia’s history. The floods and
Cyclone Yasi caused widespread devastation around the state. Almost three quarters of Queensland
was flooded at the peak of the disaster. But the QFleet team stood up to the challenge and worked
around the clock to meet the unprecedented need for the emergency supply of vehicles across the
state. I commend the team’s professionalism and flexibility that made a significant contribution to the
government’s recovery efforts.
In July 2011 we celebrated an important milestone in QFleet’s journey – QFleet’s 20 Year Anniversary! It
was a very special day for QFleet. We reminisced about our journey since 1991, with many ex-QFleeters
who joined us in celebrating the achievements of the last two decades.
Throughout the year, we continued to make progress in a number of challenging initiatives, particularly
in the areas of emissions reduction, fleet safety and fleet efficiency.
Our focus on the environmental performance of the government fleet remained strong. I am pleased to
report that since 2007, annualised carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced progressively and, by
30 November 2011, we had achieved a 29.9% reduction. However, the work is not finished yet. In order
to meet the challenging target of a 50% reduction in emissions by 2017, we need to continue working on
improving the environmental profile of the fleet and strive towards best practice fleet management.
The Electric Vehicle Evaluation Program is one of QFleet’s latest environmental initiatives. The aim of the
Program is to help assess the suitability of electric vehicles (EVs) for the government fleet by enabling
agencies to gain a hands-on experience of the technology.
Following the introduction of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV in 2010, the Nissan LEAF is the latest EV being
incorporated in the Program. Like the i-MiEV, the LEAF is a pure electric vehicle, powered exclusively by
a battery. In collaboration with Nissan Australia, we organised an information session for our clients,
staff and government executives in December, to give them an opportunity to take a close look at the
vehicle. We look forward to accepting the first LEAF for the fleet in mid 2012.
As the New Year rolls in, it is time to focus on the future. We will continue to provide our clients with
the vehicles, information and tools they need to maintain an efficient, safer and more environmentally
friendly fleet. I thank our suppliers for their ongoing support in enabling QFleet to provide this service.
I hope you enjoy this edition of Journey. Until next year, I wish you and your families a happy holiday
season and safe driving on our roads.
Fiona Wright
2 QFleet Journey
QFleet EV Evaluation Program adopts Nissan LEAF
In support of the Queensland Government’s
commitment to reduce Queensland’s carbon footprint,
QFleet is actively evaluating and adopting sustainable
fleet management solutions such as electric vehicles
(EVs).
QFleet’s EV Evaluation Program is an initiative to assess
the suitability of EVs for the Queensland Government
fleet by providing agencies with hands-on, real world
experience of these vehicles on the cutting edge of
low-emissions technology.
environmental profile of the government fleet.”
To give QFleet clients, staff and other stakeholders
an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the
new EV, QFleet organised an information session in
collaboration with Nissan Australia to showcase the
vehicle. The session took place on 14 December 2011 at
80a George Street in Brisbane City.
LEAF specialists from Nissan provided a detailed
presentation on the vehicle and the technology.
Session attendees also had the opportunity to inspect
the vehicle parked on-site and to speak with Nissan
representatives and QFleet Senior Account Managers.
Fiona is confident that there is a role for EVs in the
Queensland Government fleet. "The Evaluation
Program provides agencies with personal experience
of latest EVs such as the LEAF. It also assists them
in determining where this new technology can be
deployed most effectively," she said.
Clients interested in the evaluation of EVs within their
fleets are encouraged to consult their QFleet Senior
Account Managers.
The Hon Simon Finn MP, Minister for Government
Services, Building Industry and ICT, inspecting the
Nissan LEAF with Nissan official Michael Hayes.
The Program was initiated in August 2010 with QFleet
taking delivery of the Queensland Government’s first EV
– a Mitsubishi i-MiEV. That vehicle is now on long-term
lease to the Department of Environment and Resource
Management. Another two i-MiEVs joined the fleet
in January 2011 and are being evaluated by various
agencies.
The Nissan LEAF – a pure electric vehicle, powered
exclusively by a battery, is the latest EV being
incorporated in the Program.
QFleet General Manager Fiona Wright said, "We are
pleased to include the LEAF in our EV Evaluation
Program. Adopting and evaluating new vehicle
technologies such as hybrid and electric vehicles is
a key area of focus in our initiatives of improving the
Manager, at QFleet's Nissan Leaf information session on 14 December 2011.

3 QFleet Journey
Would you pass the road rules test?
Simple misunderstandings of road rules have the
potential to cause incidents on our roads resulting in
minor collisions, major crashes, serious injury or even
worse.
According to the Department of
Transport and Main Roads (TMR),
fundamental road rules about
roundabouts, merging, yellow lights,
safe following distances, giving way,
u-turns and keeping left on multilane
roads are problems for many
drivers.
It is every driver’s responsibility to keep up to date
with road rules and help keep our roads safe. Before
heading out this holiday season, why not take the time
to refresh your knowledge of road rules with the Here
For Life program by TMR?
Visit http://hereforlife.qld.gov.au/ and test your
knowledge of the Queensland Road Rules with an
online quiz.
The website also has informative videos of road rules in
action.
Keep the rules
‘Tis the season to be…safe!
QFleet's Safety Manager Allan Smith is hard at work
updating QFleet’s Safe Driving Guide, an online
resource to help drivers gain information on a range of
topics related to safe driving.
Allan is urging drivers to slow down and take extra care
on roads this Christmas and New Year period and help
reduce the likelihood of crashes, injuries and fatalities.
New safety fact sheets on a range of topics have been
recently added to the Safe Driving Guide to help drivers
stay safe on roads, including journey planning,
passenger behaviour, driver distractions, driving on
country roads and managing road rage.
The guide is useful not only to QFleet clients and those
involved in fleet management, but also to anyone else
who ventures onto our roads.
If you have specific questions related to fleet vehicle or
driver safety please contact Allan on
QFLEET-Safety@qfleet.qld.gov.au.
Season's greetings
happy New Year!

4 QFleet Journey
QFleet vehicle return procedure
At the end of each lease, clients must return the vehicle
to QFleet’s Zillmere workshop or one of QFleet’s Return
Agents. An understanding of the process of returning
your QFleet vehicle at lease end will help ensure the
process is as quick and smooth as possible.
• The returned vehicle must be clean enough for an
adequate inspection to take place.
• The inspection will assess the exterior and interior
condition of the vehicle (excluding the under body).
What is involved in returning a QFleet vehicle?
When you return your vehicle, QFleet (or our agent)
will inspect the vehicle. The inspection will take
approximately 20 minutes. Please note that it is
essential to make an appointment with your nearest
QFleet Return Agent for returning a vehicle.
Key points to remember when returning a vehicle
• All vehicles must be returned with:
• All sets of keys, key pads and all remote access
devices.
• The spare wheel and tools.
• The vehicle’s handbook and servicing logbook.
• At least ¼ tank of fuel.
• All accessories fitted to the vehicle that were
included in the lease.
• The inspection will also look for evidence that
your organisation has maintained the vehicle to
the manufacturer’s specifications, including the
presence of a stamped service manual.
• The inspecting officer will complete a Return
Vehicle Inspection Report (RVIR).
• A representative of your organisation should be
present during the inspection so the RVIR can be
signed by both parties.
• The vehicle will later undergo a comprehensive
mechanical and under body inspection. QFleet
may be required to notify your organisation of any
further damage to the vehicle’s mechanical and
body components as a result of this inspection.
Fleetscape and CAS training programs
QFleet has introduced a new training program to help clients use Fleetscape and CAS more efficiently and make
the most of the functionalities of the systems. The training program consists of new user guides and training
sessions.
Fleetscape user guides
The new training manuals for Fleetscape are now available on both Fleetscape and CAS under the heading
'Fleetscape user guides'.
Three user guides have been developed to assist clients with the most commonly used operations, i.e.
1. edit a vehicle policy
2. request a quote for a vehicle
3. authorise a quote for a vehicle.
If you have any feedback on the guides please email us on QFleet-Training@qfleet.qld.gov.au
Training sessions
The first training module in the program, QF001: Basic ordering using Fleetscape and CAS, has been specifically
designed for fleet managers and ordering officers. It is designed to help them become familiar with the features
and scope of Fleetscape and CAS and learn the basic functionalities of the systems like raising a quote and
ordering replacement vehicles. Subsequent modules are being developed.
If you would like to register your interest in attending an upcoming QF001 session, please email your details to
