Executive Committee (8 November 2012) Q U A L I C O A T 8.2 Presentations in Buenos Aires In cooperation with a local manufacturer of approved alternative systems, the Spanish testing laboratory, DECOTEC, had organised a seminar in Buenos Aires in July. Mr. Bernabé had presented QUALIDECO and Mr. Arias all matters linked to inspections, while Mr. Schoppig had given a comprehensive introduction to the quality labels. 8.3 Conference of Qualicoat Australia Mr. Boi had delivered a presentation at a conference organised by AIMF (the QUALICOAT General Licensee in Australia and New Zealand) in September. He had also attended a meeting with the President and Vice President of Qualicoat Australia and accompanied the inspector. He reported that Qualicoat Australia was considering the introduction of a new accreditation scheme (on a national level) that would be less rigorous than QUALICOAT. Such a new scheme could become a problem if coaters decided to opt for this scheme rather than a QUALICOAT licence. However, more details would be necessary to monitor the situation. 8.4 Alufinish seminar Mr. Schoppig had been invited to deliver a presentation at a meeting of sales managers. At this meeting, representatives had been present from countries in which QUALICOAT wanted to promote itself. They would advise their customers to ask for a QUALICOAT licence. 8.5 Contacts with AEA / Alusil (Qualicoat Russia) During the Aluminium exhibition in Düsseldorf, Mr. Panam and Mr. Schoppig had briefly met with representatives of Alusil with a view to the foundation of QUALICOAT Russia. This matter had been discussed at previous EC meetings, and it had been questioned whether Alusil and AEA were the appropriate partners to establish QUALICOAT in Russia. This had been confirmed by a Russian coater holding a QUALICOAT licence. Mr. Schoppig would pay a visit to Alusil to make sure that it clearly understood what the rights and duties of a QUALICOAT representative were and what the role of a national association was. 8.6 Relationship with GSB At the same exhibition, Mr. Panam and Mr. Schoppig had had an informal meeting with the President and Managing Director of GSB. It had been proposed that an annual meeting between the Presidents and Managing Directors be held to maintain contact. A meeting with further representatives could be considered if there were concrete issues of mutual interest. 6/9
Executive Committee (8 November 2012) Q U A L I C O A T Mr. Heitzelmann stated that many members of VOA would appreciate such contacts. ESTAL had invited GSB to attend the next meeting of the JTC, but it was the JTC’s clear intention not to address quality label matters. Some delegates argued that meetings without concrete topics were of minor interest. However, the EC endorsed the President’s approach and agreed that the contact between QUALICOAT and GSB should be continued. 8.7 Relationships with raw material suppliers Having been contacted by DSM (a resin manufacturer), Mr. Schoppig had held a meeting where he gave information about QUALICOAT. DSM representatives were interested in becoming active to anticipate developments in powder coatings. As direct membership of QUALICOAT was currently not allowed under the Articles of Association, Mr. Schoppig had extended an offer to the representatives of DSM to attend a meeting of the Powders WG as guests. Those present were in favour of such a relationship. However, it was agreed that the Accreditation and Objectives WG should address the matter of relationships with all kinds of suppliers and other interested third parties within the framework of the strategy discussions. 9. Situation in the countries It was agreed that the Secretariat would prepare statistics showing the number of licensees and approved systems over the past years. The list of current approved and cancelled licences would be attached to the minutes. 10. Any other business Mr. Arranz’s resignation Mr. Arranz announced his resignation as convenor of QUALISURFAL and convenor of the Laboratories WG. He regretted not having been able to defend the proposals submitted by QUALISURFAL. Those present deeply regretted this decision and thanked Mr. Arranz for all his valuable contributions over so many years. He was asked to reconsider his decision. 7/9
