4 L e r n e r R e s e a r c h I n s t i t u t e Innovative Disease-Focused Research 2002-2009 Ohio Third Frontier Awards: Top 10 Award-Winning Organizations To create new and support existing jobs, The State of Ohio Third Frontier funds innovative research projects that can produce globally competitive companies Disease-Focused Research Collaborations between basic-science researchers and clinicians encompass the full range of medical research from the laboratory where discoveries are made to innovative projects that translate those discoveries into clinical trials to impact patient care. Personalized healthcare, stem cell biology and regenerative medicine are newly established areas of expertise. In addition, Institute faculty participation in our innovative, unique and on-site Molecular Medicine PhD Program and in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine focuses on training both MD and PhD students in basic and applied research relevant to human health and disease. Both of these top-ranked programs integrate medical knowledge into graduate training and prepare students for careers in bench-to-bedside research.
