We’ve been busy! If you’ve noticed valuable pieces of
pottery placed artfully around the office, the artists responsible
for these masterpieces are our own talented staff! To
banish the winter blahs some of Reading Orthodontic Staff
were treated to a few sessions at Brush for Success. We delightfully
spent a few hours painting the winter blues away.
We bet you never knew how multi-talented we are!
The greatest compliment a patient can give
is the referral of their family and friends.

Tasty Treats for Tender
Creamy Banana Mandarin Pie
1 graham cracker pie crust
1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz.)
8 oz. cream cheese
1/3 lemon juice
1 tsp. Vanilla
3 bananas
1 can (15 oz.) mandarin orange segments, drained
Beat cream cheese till fluffy, gradually beat in condensed
milk. Stir in lemon juice and vanilla. Slice 2
bananas, dip in lemon juice and drain. Line bottom of
pie crust with bananas and 2/3 of orange segments. Pour
filling over fruit and chill for 3 hrs. Garnish with sliced
bananas (dipped in lemon juice to prevent browning)
and orange slices.

Kim Celmer
Kim, the smiling queen of
chair 6, started with Reading
Orthodontic Group in February
1993. Kim enjoys the
variety, and when working
with kids, every day is different.
Kim keeps busy outside of the office with her
active family, hubby Teddy and sons Travis and Jack.
An avid reader you’ll never see Kim without her latest
novel especially when lounging by the pool. On
those less sunny days you can find the Celmers at the
bowling alley!

Tracy Whitmoyer
One of the first smiling
faces you’ll see as you get familiar
with Reading Orthodontic
Group is that of Tracy
Whitmoyer. Tracy, a certified
X-ray assistant, has been on
our staff since 1993. Tracy can be handy in any department.
You may also find her assisting patients in
the operatory, as well as scheduling at the front desk.
Shopping USED to be Tracy’s passion and now it
is her infant daughter Alyson, born January 18, 2003.
Aly is welcomed home by mom and proud dad, Bart.
You may be able to spot this happy family at Maple
Grove Raceway this summer where Aly’s dad races.
ORAL HYGIENE WINNER!
The doctors and staff at Reading Orthodontic
Group try to help our patients improve their oral
hygiene. Because children, and sometimes adults,
too, need constant encouragement, we have an ongoing
contest to provide incentive.
Patients who earn a “5” on our 1-5 grading
system get a ticket. Every three months one winning
ticket is pulled from the contest jar. The
winner gets to choose from some fabulous prizes!
Alyssa took home a $300 gift certificate
to the Berkshire Mall .

One may ask “what do they feed these Berks County kids?”. Show biz is knocking
at our door! Imagine tuning in to Law and Order one Saturday night and seeing
Maria Kacanda, 8, of Reading in a dance scene! Coming up in a future episode
of Law and Order CI, look for Lashette Showers, 9, in a crowd of people.

Lashette of Wyomissing can also be seen in a few movies yet to be released. Check out “Mona Lisa
Smiles” starring Julia Roberts and Julia Stiles. She also may be in the upcoming new Jack Black

Each year thousands of children
who play sports end up in the
emergency room because of
knocked-out teeth, broken jaws,
or other facial injuries. Their injuries
could have been far less
severe or even eliminated if they
had only worn a mouth guard or a helmet.
The AAO recommends that kids who participate
in baseball, basketball, soccer,
football, extreme sports
(BMX biking, skateboarding and
in-line skating) and other common
sports should wear a mouth
guard or other equipment to protect
them from facial injury.

Supporting Our Troops
Operation Shiloh Hills Cares
A personal connection between a member of
the Shiloh Hills elementary school and a member
of the military prompted the staff and student
council to activate Operation Shiloh Hills Cares. Students in kindergarten
through sixth grade were asked to make donations of personal
items such as lip balm, deodorant, sunscreen, hard candy and
other assorted necessities for the 332 nd Air Expeditionary Group.
Personal “care” packages were assembled and decorated to be
shipped directly to the men and women of the 332 nd in Iraq and Kuwait.
Reading Orthodontic Group was proud to donate toothbrushes
to such a worthwhile cause.

CREATING FANTASTIC SMILES IS WHAT WE DO!
This 10-year old patient came to us with a narrow upper jaw and significant crowding
on top and bottom. His deep bite hid almost all of his lower teeth. After 26
months of treatment he has a fantastic smile that will last him forever!
So many adult patients are unhappy with lower crowding. This gentleman was
more than pleased with our correction of his crowding problem.. Bet you didn’t
know that about 25% of our patients are adults. You’re never too old for a
beautiful smile!
This patient was 15 years old when she started. We were able to correct her crowding
problem as well as a deep overbite in 20 months. Just in time for senior pictures.
