The trend towards increased system
outputs under unchanged installation
conditions demands effective measures
for temperature compensation
inside the inverter. To this end, a variety
of systems are used. Passive heat
abstraction has the disadvantage
that connection to a correspondingly
large heat sink is often insufficient,
and therefore the effect this has on
the heat balance is relatively little. On
the other hand, active ventilation units
only function with a corresponding
opening in the housing, which leads
to soiling of sensitive electronic components
due to foreign objects and
moisture. Thereby, the inverter loses
the protection rating needed for outdoor
installation.
With the patented dual-chamber cooling
system OptiCool, SMA now offers
a technical solution which combines
passive and active cooling, and can
rightly be described as “intelligent
temperature management”.
For maximum improvement of effectiveness,
the inverter’s complete
housing becomes part of the cooling
system. It no longer serves merely as
accommodation and protection of
the internal components, but also as
a cool air and heat distributor.
