Prayer diary
Thursday 16 August
Ronnie Gall is leading the Mission in Laurencekirk.
Pray that it will be the talk of the town for at least
this week and that, as last year, many families will
attend the regular follow-up ‘Messy Church’ events.
Pray for a good number of churches to take the
opportunity of holding a Back to School with God
Sunday service in the next few weeks, supporting
and praying for local school staff and pupils.
Friday 17 August
Pray for senior pupils in Alloa Academy, that
a weekly SU Group can be planned for this
term with the help of Ian Paget and the school
chaplaincy team.
Give thanks for Mair MacDonald who is our latest
Local Area Worker in Bearsden and Milngavie.
Mair leads lively primary assemblies and is keen
to support the development of all the SU Groups
in the area as she works with Kenny McKie.
Saturday 18 August
Living Hope is the SU International initiative to
enable SU movements worldwide to contribute
to discussions on how the SU International
movement should develop. Pray for the ongoing
listening process, leading up to the Living Hope
conference in November.
Give thanks for Phyllis Caldwell as she leads our
SU Scotland International Committee and as
she coordinates visitors from Ukraine and other
FSR countries.
Sunday 19 August
Give thanks for the freedom we have in
Scotland to run Christian groups in schools
and pray for God to raise up new leaders
for SU Groups in schools where there are no
groups at present.
Give thanks for the many volunteers who help
with catering at Lendrick Muir throughout the
year. They do a wonderful job!
Is there an SU group in your local school? If so,
pray for the leaders by name today. If not, pray for
God to open up that opportunity.
Monday 20 August
The Caithness Action Group meets tonight in
Thurso. Ask that the members are encouraged by
reports from summer events and given wisdom
regarding opportunities to be involved in mission
with young people over the coming school year.
Give thanks for the work of Regional Workers across
Scotland and pray for much encouragement in
their ministry.
Tuesday 21 August
The Management Group of the Larbert Churches
Youth Trust meets this evening, hoping to be
joined by their new schools worker following
Gordon McKie’s move to Junction 12 over
the summer. Pray for the building of new
relationships and effective transition.
Pray for Libby Lobban and Gordon McKie as they
form a new team in Junction 12. Pray for the
young people reached by its ministry in the east
end of Glasgow, both in and out of school.
Wednesday 22 August
Pray for Ian Paget, the COLT schools worker, as
he plans ahead for ‘Milk Shake Monday’ events
in Lornshill Academy, Alloa. Pray too for the
chaplains who will be involved and for the pupils
who will take ownership of these events.
Pray for the Regional Management Team (Phil,
John, Gordon, Kenny and Jackie) who are meeting
together today to determine Regional Ministries’
priorities as the new academic year unfolds.
Thursday 23 August
Pray for the chaplaincy team at Bathgate Academy.
Give thanks that there are openings for an SU
Group and pray that Christian pupils and teachers
in the school would be encouraged by this.
Pray for Valerie Sim as she delivers the Bible
Alive programme to schools in Coatbridge and
Airdrie. Praise God for the enthusiastic way the
programme is being received by schools and for
the encouraging response from pupils, saying it
has changed the way they think about the Bible!
Friday 24 August
At Lendrick Muir this weekend young people
who were involved in the COmMISSION mission
and discipleship programme will get together
to review their summer events and rededicate
themselves to God’s service over the coming
year in school, university and work. Pray for Colin
Carmichael and Rosie Bowker as they lead.
Saturday 25 August
The Big Celebration takes place today at Lendrick
Muir with worship and Bible teaching, summer
updates, the AGM, seminars, commissioning
for another year of ministry, team games and a
ceilidh! Please pray for true celebration of God’s
love and goodness as we rejoice in all he has
done this summer.
Pray that each young person attending the
COmMISSION Review Weekend would feel valued
and encouraged in their faith and respond to
God’s call to live for him in their schools, colleges,
universities and workplaces.
Sunday 26 August
Today many churches are holding Back to
School with God Sunday services. Pray for
congregations, both in Scotland and beyond,
who are using the materials today, that they
would be encouraged to continue in prayer for
their local schools.
Churches in Dunbar have responded to the need
in schools to support children struggling with
literacy. The paired reading programme has been
a way for the church to serve the school and to
demonstrate God’s love. Pray for its impact.
Pray for Christian head teachers in their leadership
role in our schools.
Monday 27 August
Today the New Staff Retreat begins at Alltnacriche,
a time for Bible study, prayer and introduction to
the ethos and practices of SU Scotland. Pray for
rich fellowship and for fresh vision.
Pray for current vacancies in our staff team,
particularly at our centres, that the Lord would
call the right people to fill these positions.
Tuesday 28 August
A Bible Alive training course is taking place at
Alltnacriche. Pray that the participants will leave
feeling equipped to share the Bible with children
and that Bible Alive will spread to many more
schools around Scotland.
Whatever you have learned or
received or heard from me, or seen in
me – put it into practice. And the
God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:9
As pupils in Airdrie and Coatbridge show a
hunger to learn more about God following Bible
Alive ministry in their schools, pray for volunteers
to enable SU Groups to be established in schools
in the area.
Wednesday 29 August
Give thanks for the Evangelical Alliance initiative,
‘It takes a whole church to raise a child’, addressing
the deeply concerning loss of children from our
churches. Pray for those in Scotland, including SU
Scotland, working to address this concern.
Pray for Stephen Jones, recently appointed as
Church Partnerships Coordinator, as he networks
with church leaders and builds stronger links
between SU Scotland and the local church.
Thursday 30 August
The Holidays Department and Volunteers Unit
staff members meet tomorrow to review the
summer programme and give thanks for all God
has done. Pray for an encouraging time and for
clear thinking about what went well and what
could have gone better.
The Wheel Trust give thanks for very positive
relationships with the management team at Hillhead
Primary in Glasgow and for the access granted to
a local youth worker. Pray for opportunities for
local churches to work with the school.
