Prayer diary
Saturday 21 July
Several Holidays begin today – at Lendrick Muir
(led by Adrienne Cartwright), Scoughall (led by
Gordon & Philippa McKinlay, and Glenshee (led
by Rosie & Paul Bowker). Pray that at each event
there may be an awareness of the Holy Spirit at
work, drawing people to Jesus.
Give thanks for the visit of Whitney Kuniholm (author
of E100) to Scotland in March. His vision for a Bible
reading revival has inspired many. Pray for Scotland’s
young people to have a hunger for God’s Word.
Pray for those attending church tomorrow as part
of their Holiday or Mission, for whom this is an
unfamiliar experience.
Sunday 22 July
A summer team from Britain is at the SU centre
near St Petersburg, Russia, for two weeks from
today working with local volunteers to run Holiday
Clubs for homeless children and for children with
disabilities. Pray that they will bring Christian joy
to the lives of these vulnerable children.
Young people leave home today to start a Holiday
at Alltnacriche led by Ali & Jill Laing. Amidst the
beautiful surroundings may these young people
grow in their faith and love for the Lord.
Monday 23 July
Children head to Arran today to continue the
summer season at Kingscross. Kenny & Janet
MacMillan are leading an eight-day camp. Pray
for energy for the team – and grace to cope with
the weather!
Pray for Colin & Pauline Forster as they lead a
new Mission in Stevenston, Ayrshire. Pray that
the team members work well together and that
Christ is proclaimed.
Give thanks for the work done by staff in the
Holidays Department and Volunteers Unit and
pray for clear thinking as they work with travel
logistics, parents and volunteers.
Tuesday 24 July
Paul Beautyman is leading a Holiday for children
in Argyll at the Benmore Centre. Pray for new
friendships among the children and ongoing
relationships following the event.
A Holiday Club is taking place in Musselburgh.
Pray that relationships might be built up with
those who came last year, and for new contacts.
Pray for Ali Black and her team to know God’s
leading in all that they do.
Wednesday 25 July
We rejoice in the sacrificial commitment of
hundreds of volunteers who make it possible
for SU Holidays & Missions, as well as Regional
Weekends, to take place. Pray that each one
would know God’s pleasure in their service. So
often people give testimony to how the Lord has
worked in their life as they have served him at
these events. Pray that for many, their time at an
event this summer would be hugely significant in
every aspect of their lives.
Thursday 26 July
In Vorzel, Ukraine, a special effort is being
made to invite children from the immediate
neighbourhood to attend the camps being run at
the site over the next fortnight. Pray for greater
contact with the local community.
Give thanks for an SU Group started in Vale of
Leven Academy near Dumbarton last year by
two young probationary teachers, Emma and
Roxanne. Pray that these two young teachers will
find employment and give thanks for volunteer
Sheena Buchan who will continue the group
when term restarts.
Friday 27 July
A team led by Jen Robertson arrives at
Scoughall today to prepare for the arrival of
50 young people aged S1-S3 tomorrow. Pray
for Jen and the team as they prepare both
practically and spiritually.
Give thanks for the North Ayrshire Action Group
who are challenged to reach out to young people
and recruit new volunteers in the area. Pray
particularly for Shirley, Alison and Anna as they
seek to move the group forward.
Saturday 28 July
Pray for those on duty at bus stations and
various pick-up points today as children travel
to their Holiday. Pray for travel leaders in their
role of reassuring parents and providing a warm
welcome to young people starting their Holiday.
Pray that SU Scotland’s presence at the CLAN
Gathering Marketplace would be fruitful in
encouraging visitors to begin partnering with us
in our ministry by praying, volunteering or giving.
Sunday 29 July
Please pray that the four key emphases of the
SU Scotland strategy will be clearly seen in
our ministry: prioritising the disadvantaged,
working with churches, always taking account
of family context and clearly evaluating what
we are doing.
Pray for those who provide the catering at
summer events, especially for chief cooks who
plan the menus and lead the catering teams. Pray
for safety in the kitchen and for energy for all the
hard work involved.
Monday 30 July
Hilary Phillips is leading a large mixed-activity
Holiday at Lendrick Muir, alongside Niall & Reenie
Sherriffs who are running a specialised Watersports
Holiday. Lift them to the Lord in prayer.
Give thanks for many years of partnership in
mission between SU Scotland, Colinton Mains
and Craiglockhart Churches in Edinburgh. Pray
for Gordon McBirnie and his team as they share
the Good News of Jesus in their Holiday Club.
Five churches in Prestonpans work together under
the banner of SU Scotland and the leadership of
Hazel Gray to deliver a very busy week of mission.
Pray that this event will draw everyone involved
closer to Jesus.
Tuesday 31 July
James Gill is leading Shiskine Mission in Arran
Free Church of Scotland. Pray for God’s blessing
on this ministry and for help for James as he
trains and prepares local Christians to take over
the future leadership of the Mission.
Pray for Dave Moss, Assistant Manager at
Alltnacriche. His wife Anna is preparing to move
to Alltnacriche to join Dave with their two boys
Caleb and Jared, having finished working out her
maternity leave in Medway. May they settle in
quickly and find great joy in being together again
as a family.
Wednesday 1 August
Pray for the young people attending Holidays
this week at Glenshee (led by Stuart Smith) and
Alltnacriche (led by Colin & Ruth Sinclair). Pray for
a response to all they are hearing of the Lord.
Pray for SU India who, in going to press, were
still looking for a new Director. Pray too for John
Jacob, who continues to faithfully serve the Lord
despite recent health problems.
Thursday 2 August
A celebration takes place today at Kingscross,
Arran, giving thanks to God for 60 years of
summer Holidays. Rejoice with us!
Pray for God’s protection over the Bayton family
at Alltnacriche, where Paul is Manager and his
wife Shula is Senior Instructor. Praise God for the
completion of their son Finlay’s chemotherapy
and that the subsequent bone marrow biopsy
showed normal cells. Pray that he will grow
stronger and keep well as his immunity recovers.
Give thanks for the safe arrival of Gareth & Trish
Archibald’s baby daughter, Sofia, in May. Pray for all
Christian parents in their role of nurturing children.
