Tuesday 3 July
Pray for Gordon McKie as he leads a new Mission
in Carron, near Falkirk. Pray for many local
children to come along. Pray too for lasting
blessing for the local churches involved.
Sunday 1 July
Over 20 students have just completed LeadUP
training, most of whom will serve at SU
Holidays & Missions over the summer. Pray
they will be able to put into practice lessons
learned and trust the Lord to use them in
situations which may push them out of their
comfort zone.
Today a service is being held at St. Mark’s Church
in Stirling to celebrate the end of their Mission.
Give thanks for new contacts with local families
and pray that some might attend today.
Yesterday saw Holidays begin at Glenshee,
Kingscross and Lendrick Muir. Ask God for his
Holy Spirit to move among them, and for wisdom
for Team Leaders Julie Moody (nee Wilson),
Andrew Thompson and Kenny McKie.
Monday 2 July
Kenny McKie is leading a Holiday at Lendrick
Muir with 110 young people. Give thanks for the
continuity of this event, enabling young people
to return year on year and grow in faith. Pray that
many may participate in a voluntary discipleship
course being laid on by some of the team.
Campers arrive at two Motiv8 events today, at
Alltnacriche (led by Libby Lobban and John Gillan)
and Scoughall (led by Ian Emery and Phil Brown).
Pray that the young people will settle in well, be
responsive to the teaching and have lots of fun.
Bob Harley and David Wharton are leading the
Mission in Kirriemuir. Pray that the team works
James Gill leads the Scone Mission this week,
seeking to encourage the local churches in their
long vacancy and as they face a difficult union.
Pray for God to work in the hearts and minds of
the children who attend.
Pray for Andrew Thompson as he leads a Holiday
this week at Kingscross, Arran. Pray for safety in
travel and activities and for everyone to have an
encounter with God.
Wednesday 4 July
Today Carina Lamb is leading the end-of-term
assembly at Lochmaben Primary. Give thanks for
this opportunity.
Five representatives from the COOL Associate
Trust fly to Lima for three weeks to serve with
the Vine Trust and SU Peru. Pray that work party
members will have their eyes opened to the
transforming work of the gospel in action.
Children return home today from the first of the
summer’s camps at Vorzel in Ukraine. Pray that
they leave with happy memories and a desire to
discover more about the Christian faith.
Thursday 5 July
Two Missions are taking place in Dunfermline
this week. Andrew Philip leads the team at
Pitcorthie, and Euan & Ruth Clipston the team
at St. Margaret’s Church. Praise God for the
commitment of local Christians and pray for the
ongoing impact of this outreach.
Pray for trainee leaders who completed Basecamp
training earlier this year. Pray for them to gain
new skills and confidence as they serve on teams.
May they grow in dependence on God as they
help other young people to encounter Jesus.
The planning group for the Edinburgh East Craigs
Mission meets for the final time this evening.
Pray for a real sense of the programme coming
together and of team members being in the
correct roles. Pray for some younger helpers who
will move into this role for the first time, having
been part of the primary club until now.
Friday 6 July
Praise God for the support raised through last
year’s SU International Holiday Fundraising Project
in Scotland, which is enabling 60 Tatar children to
attend camps this summer in Crimea, Ukraine.
A new Mission is underway in Drumlithie in
Aberdeenshire, led by Jenny Townsend. Pray that
many local children will come and be excited,
enthused and challenged as they hear how much
God loves them.
Please remember, and continue to remember
throughout the summer programme, those who
are providing 24-hour on-call emergency phone
cover, advising team leaders on many different
issues, some of which can be complex.
Saturday 7 July
Many Holidays start and finish today, which
means lots of travel across the country. Pray
for those travel leading, driving minibuses and
coaches, those on duty at bus stations and pickup
points. We must never take safety for granted;
pray for God’s continued protection.
Colin Carmichael is leading a Holiday at Glenshee.
Pray for the team as they look after the young
people and open the Bible with them.
Give thanks for the appointment of Hazel Ferrier
to the post of Administrator in our Inverness
office. Please pray for her as she settles in and
learns all the different aspects of the job.
Sunday 8 July
Planning for 2013 SU Holidays is well
underway, even as summer events are in
full swing. Pray for Ewen Cunningham and
others involved in bringing the publicity and
programme together. Pray for wisdom in
inviting Team Leaders to lead events in 2013.
Pray for John Nonhebel & Hazel Gray as they
lead a Motiv8 holiday team at Scoughall. As the
children hear about Jesus and how his disciples
responded to him, pray that they would want to
be Jesus’ disciples today.
Esther McLeod is leading a Holiday at Lendrick Muir;
also at Lendrick Muir are two football Holidays led
by Ross Murray, Gavin Berry and Chris Beattie. Ask
that the teams may be equipped to communicate
the gospel with the young people in their care.

Monday 9 July
A specialist mountain biking Holiday is taking
place at Galloway Activity Centre, led by
Ewen Cunningham. This is a very physically
demanding week with lots of excitement.
Pray that the young people will find the Bible
teaching equally challenging.
Christine Rollo is leading local Christians and SU
Scotland volunteers in a Mission in Sauchie. Give
thanks for the SU Groups held in four local primary
schools and pray that these children might attend
and bring others with them. Give thanks too for
the enthusiasm of the local Parish Church.
Interviews for a Gap Year Coordinator are due to
take place around this time. Pray for wisdom for
those interviewing and for a real sense of God’s
call on someone for this part-time post.
Tuesday 10 July
Many Holidays are running this week. Lift to God
the needs of those at Alltnacriche (led by Chris &
Claire Macrae), Comrie Croft (led by David Clipston
& Val Scott), Glenshee (led by Colin Carmichael),
Kingscross (led by Rachel Sloan) and the Creative
Arts Holiday at Blaithwaite (led by Gordon Roy).
Jackie Ringan asks us to give thanks for an
amazing Holiday at Aviemore this past Easter
where there was a real hunger for truth in the lives
of many campers and clear evidence of answered
prayer in the lives of those who returned to camp.
Ask the same for each event this summer.
Wednesday 11 July
Pray for Team Leaders of SU Holidays & Missions,
especially those who are new to this responsibility.
Pray for wise and Godly leadership in all the
spiritual and practical aspects of their event.
The Bible teaching at the Creative Arts Holiday
takes place after lunch, before attention moves
to evening performances. There have been great
times of testimony in previous years as campers
tell of God working in their lives; pray for this year
to be just as honest and powerful.
Tima Stupak and a team of volunteers from
Open Bible, Ukraine, begin a series of four 10-day
Holidays today. Many of the campers come from
the Crimean Tatar minority; pray for open and
good relations between them and the other
campers and leaders and for tact and wisdom in
discussing issues of faith.
Thursday 12 July
Give thanks for good relationships with, and
positive feedback from, schools who have visited
Lendrick Muir this past academic year. Pray for a
full diary of school bookings for next year.
Pray for recruitment of the right people to join
the staff team at Lendrick Muir, where there are
key vacancies.
Pray for all the SU Group leaders who are
enjoying a rest from their groups over the next
few weeks. Pray that they would be inspired and
refreshed for the start of a new school term in
August. Ask for the Lord to provide new leaders
where some are stepping down.
Friday 13 July
Children from St Petersburg, Russia, attended a
camp earlier this month. Pray that a club can be
started for these city children at the end of the
summer. Pray too for a similar camp for teenagers
which is taking place next week.
Give thanks for new Action Groups in
Wigtownshire and Ayr. Pray that these groups will
see God at work as they implement some of SU
Scotland’s strategy in their areas, working with
Carina Lamb, Paula Morton and Julie Bain.
Saturday 14 July
Give thanks for the Junior and Senior Music
Holidays which begin today at Lendrick Muir,
led by Lesley Crawford and Robin & Rachael
MacLellan. Pray for a fun week where the young
people can develop their musical skills as well as
grow closer to God.
A Drama Holiday is also taking place at Lendrick
Muir in association with Foolproof Theatre
Company, led by Fiona Stewart. Pray for young
people to discover their God-given gifts and use
them for his glory.
Andy Bathgate is preaching tomorrow at Juniper
Green Parish Church and would appreciate prayer
that God’s truth would be spoken clearly and
received humbly.
Sunday 15 July
Give thanks for the wonderful response
to the Holidays Sponsorship Appeal again
this year, enabling Motiv8 Holidays to be
provided at huge subsidy, and many other
children and team members attending
Holidays to be sponsored. These gifts come
with much appreciation.
Today sees a large group of young people travel
from Whiteinch Church in Glasgow to Whithaugh
Park in the Borders. Diane McWilliam is leading
this Holiday for young people associated with
ongoing youth work in the area. Pray for an
encouraging week.
Monday 16th July
Young people arrive at Scoughall today to begin
a Motiv8 Holiday led by Libby Lobban & Jonny
Clipston. Pray for a spiritual harvest in the midst
of all the fun and activities.
Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still
four months until harvest’? I tell you,
open your eyes and look at the fields!
They are ripe for harvest.

Give thanks that problems which faced the Elie
Mission team concerning accommodation and
insurance were happily resolved. Pray for Bruce
& Kirsty Lockhart, their family and their team, as
they serve at Elie over the next two weeks. Pray
for safety, stamina, good health and another
awesome fortnight of God working in young lives.
Tuesday 17 July
Pray for Holidays underway this week at
Alltnacriche (led by Jackie Ringan), Kingscross (led
by Kathryn & Phil Coad), and Glenshee (led by Jo &
Aaron Black). Pray for good weather, good fun and
food, and above all, an openness to the gospel.
Pray for wisdom for Gavin Thomson as he
leads the Whiting Bay Mission on Arran. Pray
that God’s Holy Spirit brings unity to the team,
purpose to the Mission and hence blessing to the
community of local people and holidaymakers.
Wednesday 18 July
Pray for Assistant Team Leaders, who are usually
responsible for organising the activity programme
at their event. Pray for fresh ideas, flexibility and
an ability to coordinate different activities. Pray
also for a close working relationship with the Team
Leader at their event.
Activity instructors play a vital role in teaching
young people new skills. Give thanks for them
and pray that their example and witness would
point to Christ.
Thursday 19 July
Give thanks for those who sign up to be part of
the Prayer Hotline during the holiday season,
responding to immediate requests for prayer
from Team Leaders.
This year’s SU International Holiday Fundraising
Project is raising funds to support clubs and
day camps throughout Ukraine. Pray for
effective use of the promotional material at
the Holiday and Mission events in stimulating
prayer and giving, thus encouraging our fellowworkers
in Ukraine.
Friday 20 July
Children from Highlands & Islands are travelling a
long distance from scattered locations tomorrow
to their Holiday at Lendrick Muir, led by Colin
Carmichael and Scott McRoberts. Pray for safety.
Give thanks for the young people who are returning
to this event and pray that they are moved on in
their faith and relationship with Jesus.
Praise God for the resources at our disposal: for
centres and campsites where we can run SU
Holidays; experienced volunteers and staff; many
people committed to prayerful support of SU
Scotland’s ministry. Pray we will be wise stewards
of the resources entrusted to us.

Saturday 21 July
Several Holidays begin today – at Lendrick Muir
(led by Adrienne Cartwright), Scoughall (led by
Gordon & Philippa McKinlay, and Glenshee (led
by Rosie & Paul Bowker). Pray that at each event
there may be an awareness of the Holy Spirit at
work, drawing people to Jesus.
Give thanks for the visit of Whitney Kuniholm (author
of E100) to Scotland in March. His vision for a Bible
reading revival has inspired many. Pray for Scotland’s
young people to have a hunger for God’s Word.
Pray for those attending church tomorrow as part
of their Holiday or Mission, for whom this is an
unfamiliar experience.
Sunday 22 July
A summer team from Britain is at the SU centre
near St Petersburg, Russia, for two weeks from
today working with local volunteers to run Holiday
Clubs for homeless children and for children with
disabilities. Pray that they will bring Christian joy
to the lives of these vulnerable children.
Young people leave home today to start a Holiday
at Alltnacriche led by Ali & Jill Laing. Amidst the
beautiful surroundings may these young people
grow in their faith and love for the Lord.
Monday 23 July
Children head to Arran today to continue the
summer season at Kingscross. Kenny & Janet
MacMillan are leading an eight-day camp. Pray
for energy for the team – and grace to cope with
the weather!
Pray for Colin & Pauline Forster as they lead a
new Mission in Stevenston, Ayrshire. Pray that
the team members work well together and that
Christ is proclaimed.
Give thanks for the work done by staff in the
Holidays Department and Volunteers Unit and
pray for clear thinking as they work with travel
logistics, parents and volunteers.
Tuesday 24 July
Paul Beautyman is leading a Holiday for children
in Argyll at the Benmore Centre. Pray for new
friendships among the children and ongoing
relationships following the event.
A Holiday Club is taking place in Musselburgh.
Pray that relationships might be built up with
those who came last year, and for new contacts.
Pray for Ali Black and her team to know God’s
leading in all that they do.
Wednesday 25 July
We rejoice in the sacrificial commitment of
hundreds of volunteers who make it possible
for SU Holidays & Missions, as well as Regional
Weekends, to take place. Pray that each one
would know God’s pleasure in their service. So
often people give testimony to how the Lord has
worked in their life as they have served him at
these events. Pray that for many, their time at an
event this summer would be hugely significant in
every aspect of their lives.
Thursday 26 July
In Vorzel, Ukraine, a special effort is being
made to invite children from the immediate
neighbourhood to attend the camps being run at
the site over the next fortnight. Pray for greater
contact with the local community.
Give thanks for an SU Group started in Vale of
Leven Academy near Dumbarton last year by
two young probationary teachers, Emma and
Roxanne. Pray that these two young teachers will
find employment and give thanks for volunteer
Sheena Buchan who will continue the group
when term restarts.
Friday 27 July
A team led by Jen Robertson arrives at
Scoughall today to prepare for the arrival of
50 young people aged S1-S3 tomorrow. Pray
for Jen and the team as they prepare both
practically and spiritually.
Give thanks for the North Ayrshire Action Group
who are challenged to reach out to young people
and recruit new volunteers in the area. Pray
particularly for Shirley, Alison and Anna as they
seek to move the group forward.
Saturday 28 July
Pray for those on duty at bus stations and
various pick-up points today as children travel
to their Holiday. Pray for travel leaders in their
role of reassuring parents and providing a warm
welcome to young people starting their Holiday.
Pray that SU Scotland’s presence at the CLAN
Gathering Marketplace would be fruitful in
encouraging visitors to begin partnering with us
in our ministry by praying, volunteering or giving.
Sunday 29 July
Please pray that the four key emphases of the
SU Scotland strategy will be clearly seen in
our ministry: prioritising the disadvantaged,
working with churches, always taking account
of family context and clearly evaluating what
we are doing.
Pray for those who provide the catering at
summer events, especially for chief cooks who
plan the menus and lead the catering teams. Pray
for safety in the kitchen and for energy for all the
hard work involved.
Monday 30 July
Hilary Phillips is leading a large mixed-activity
Holiday at Lendrick Muir, alongside Niall & Reenie
Sherriffs who are running a specialised Watersports
Holiday. Lift them to the Lord in prayer.
Give thanks for many years of partnership in
mission between SU Scotland, Colinton Mains
and Craiglockhart Churches in Edinburgh. Pray
for Gordon McBirnie and his team as they share
the Good News of Jesus in their Holiday Club.
Five churches in Prestonpans work together under
the banner of SU Scotland and the leadership of
Hazel Gray to deliver a very busy week of mission.
Pray that this event will draw everyone involved
closer to Jesus.
Tuesday 31 July
James Gill is leading Shiskine Mission in Arran
Free Church of Scotland. Pray for God’s blessing
on this ministry and for help for James as he
trains and prepares local Christians to take over
the future leadership of the Mission.
Pray for Dave Moss, Assistant Manager at
Alltnacriche. His wife Anna is preparing to move
to Alltnacriche to join Dave with their two boys
Caleb and Jared, having finished working out her
maternity leave in Medway. May they settle in
quickly and find great joy in being together again
as a family.
Wednesday 1 August
Pray for the young people attending Holidays
this week at Glenshee (led by Stuart Smith) and
Alltnacriche (led by Colin & Ruth Sinclair). Pray for
a response to all they are hearing of the Lord.
Pray for SU India who, in going to press, were
still looking for a new Director. Pray too for John
Jacob, who continues to faithfully serve the Lord
despite recent health problems.
Thursday 2 August
A celebration takes place today at Kingscross,
Arran, giving thanks to God for 60 years of
summer Holidays. Rejoice with us!
Pray for God’s protection over the Bayton family
at Alltnacriche, where Paul is Manager and his
wife Shula is Senior Instructor. Praise God for the
completion of their son Finlay’s chemotherapy
and that the subsequent bone marrow biopsy
showed normal cells. Pray that he will grow
stronger and keep well as his immunity recovers.
Give thanks for the safe arrival of Gareth & Trish
Archibald’s baby daughter, Sofia, in May. Pray for all
Christian parents in their role of nurturing children.

Friday 3 August
The last Kingscross Holiday of the season begins
today with a large number of young people
and team, led by Kenny McKie. This is a hugely
popular event with many children returning year
after year. Pray that those who are due to move
on may consider the many SU Scotland training
events on offer and return to serve the Lord on
teams in future years.
Kenny McKie wants you to give thanks for the
4th year boy from Lanarkshire who made a
commitment to follow Christ at an Easter Holiday.
There are many like him. Pray that they make good
choices and a real difference in school and family.
Saturday 4 August
Give thanks for the commitment and service of
Donald & Dorothy Webb and George & Audrey
Chalmers, all of whom are long-standing Team
Leaders giving their time each year to lead
Holidays. Pray for them as their events begin
today at Scoughall and Glenshee.
Phil Wray, together with Martin Boyd, leads the
Mission in Tobermory and Salen on Mull this week.
Pray that it will build on last year’s great start and
that the churches involved will be drawn yet closer
together in their outreach ministries.
Sunday 5 August
Pray that we will always live up to our name of
Scripture Union. Pray against any complacency
about our faithfulness and commitment to the
Bible. Ask God for renewed submission to God
and his Word in all of our activities.
Pray for a sense of the Lord’s presence in the
two Holidays at Lendrick Muir, led by Elizabeth
McDowall (primary age) and Mark & Karen
Campbell (secondary age). Pray for all involved to
move on in their walk with God.
Monday 6 August
The Mission at Kirkliston Parish Church runs from
Monday to Thursday. Pray for Andy Bathgate as
he leads the team, many of whom are coming
straight from CLAN Gathering. Pray that the
children will be responsive to all that is shared.
Alex Kelly is leading a Youth Outreach Week at
Kirkmuirhill Parish Church in the Clyde Valley.
Pray for the team and the young people who will
attend, and that it will have a positive effect on
the youth ministry in the church.
Tuesday 7 August
The Mission at East Craigs, Edinburgh, begins
today under the leadership of Jackie Ringan. Give
thanks for the local team that has come together
and pray that God would use this week to make
a difference in the lives of many of the children
who attend.
There is a new Mission running at Culloden
Baptist Church in Inverness led by Alasdair &
Eileen Morrison. Please pray for all involved, and
for an encouraging week.

love, as each part does its work.

This week Alison Black leads Musselburgh
Mission and Nicola Bruce leads Tranent Mission.
Pray that the different churches involved in each
event will work well together and that many
unchurched children will attend and hear God
speak to them.
Wednesday 8 August
Alex Kelly & Ann Lyall are leading an afternoon
Holiday Club today in the village of Dolphinton,
South Lanarkshire. Pray for strong links with the
community as a result.
Kenny McKie asks us to pray that at least 20 of
the 70 young people attending the Kingscross
Holiday will take up a discipleship course during
and after the camp, and that these disciples will
make a deep impact for Christ in their school and
community during the next year.
Thursday 9 August
Pray for Alan Monk, leading the Saline Mission
in Fife, and Nerys Brown & Duncan Strathdee,
leading the Dunblane ‘Radio Rainbow’ Holiday
Club. Pray for wisdom in leadership and
responsiveness to the gospel in both places.
Andrew Thompson, Frank Ribbons and team are
on Mission in Aboyne. Praise God for the success
of past events, praying that in this transition
year the local church will be in an even stronger
position to continue effective future outreach.
Friday 10 August
Pray for Jayne Crawford who is leading a new
Mission in Bathgate in partnership with the
Centrepoint Church plant. Give thanks that
the Mission can be held in Simpson Primary
School. Pray for unity in the team and contact
with local families.
Churches in Dunbar have been running their
children’s Holiday Club and youth outreach
programme this week. Pray especially for the
final event tomorrow evening where parents and
families are invited along.
Saturday 11 August
The final Holidays of the summer begin today –
at Lendrick Muir led by Jeanette Cossar, and at
Glenshee led by Eleanor Dickson. Pray for a funfilled,
encouraging week.
During the summer, young people at Holiday or
Mission have been encouraged to give money to
the SU International Fundraising Project. This year
the project is supporting Open Bible in Ukraine as
they seek to reach over 10,000 Ukrainian young
people with the Good News of Jesus. Pray for the
work of Open Bible.
Sunday 12 August
Many young people are back home with
their families after having been at a Holiday
or Mission earlier in the summer. Pray for
spiritual protection, and that the seed of God’s
Word would continue to be watered, grow and
bear fruit in their lives.
Pray for Ken Coulter, leading the Kilsyth Mission
and Chris Beattie, leading the Burntisland Mission.
Pray that both will know God’s presence and grace
as they lead their respective teams and that the
churches involved will be inspired and excited.
Monday 13 August
Alex Kelly & Ann Lyall are leading an afternoon
one-day Holiday Club in Quothquan in South
Lanarkshire. Pray for the team and that many
children would attend. Give thanks for the SU
Group which recently started in the village school.
Margaret Benton leads the Inverbervie Mission.
Pray that it will build on last year’s amazing
event, that the evening programme will attract
and challenge many teenagers and that local
churches will be strengthened.
Pray for teachers in Lanarkshire today as they
return to school ahead of their pupils. Pray for the
many chaplaincy teams who provide tea, coffee
and cakes to the staff on these busy days. Pray
that this act of kindness would be a real blessing
to schools.
Tuesday 14 August
Several young people join a planning group this
afternoon to plan future Strictly prayer events,
and in particular Strictly Deeper in October. Please
pray for the Lord’s anointing upon them.
The Ross-shire Action Group meets tonight in
Invergordon. Give thanks for the prayer evening
they held in June and pray for them at the start of
another academic year as they look at ways they
can encourage local SU Scotland ministries.
Wednesday 15 August
The SU Group from Sullivan Upper School in
Northern Ireland is spending a week at Lendrick
Muir. Pray that the young people will draw closer
to God through prayer and fellowship.
Today school term begins for many. As some
children start school for the first time, move
to a new school, or just head back for another
academic year, pray that each of them would
know the touch of God on their lives.

Thursday 16 August
Ronnie Gall is leading the Mission in Laurencekirk.
Pray that it will be the talk of the town for at least
this week and that, as last year, many families will
attend the regular follow-up ‘Messy Church’ events.
Pray for a good number of churches to take the
opportunity of holding a Back to School with God
Sunday service in the next few weeks, supporting
and praying for local school staff and pupils.
Friday 17 August
Pray for senior pupils in Alloa Academy, that
a weekly SU Group can be planned for this
term with the help of Ian Paget and the school
chaplaincy team.
Give thanks for Mair MacDonald who is our latest
Local Area Worker in Bearsden and Milngavie.
Mair leads lively primary assemblies and is keen
to support the development of all the SU Groups
in the area as she works with Kenny McKie.
Saturday 18 August
Living Hope is the SU International initiative to
enable SU movements worldwide to contribute
to discussions on how the SU International
movement should develop. Pray for the ongoing
listening process, leading up to the Living Hope
conference in November.
Give thanks for Phyllis Caldwell as she leads our
SU Scotland International Committee and as
she coordinates visitors from Ukraine and other
FSR countries.
Sunday 19 August
Give thanks for the freedom we have in
Scotland to run Christian groups in schools

Monday 20 August
The Caithness Action Group meets tonight in
Thurso. Ask that the members are encouraged by
reports from summer events and given wisdom
regarding opportunities to be involved in mission
with young people over the coming school year.

Scotland and pray for much encouragement in
their ministry.
Tuesday 21 August
The Management Group of the Larbert Churches
Youth Trust meets this evening, hoping to be
joined by their new schools worker following
Gordon McKie’s move to Junction 12 over
the summer. Pray for the building of new
relationships and effective transition.
Pray for Libby Lobban and Gordon McKie as they
form a new team in Junction 12. Pray for the
young people reached by its ministry in the east
end of Glasgow, both in and out of school.
Wednesday 22 August
Pray for Ian Paget, the COLT schools worker, as
he plans ahead for ‘Milk Shake Monday’ events
in Lornshill Academy, Alloa. Pray too for the
chaplains who will be involved and for the pupils
who will take ownership of these events.
Pray for the Regional Management Team (Phil,
John, Gordon, Kenny and Jackie) who are meeting
together today to determine Regional Ministries’
priorities as the new academic year unfolds.
Thursday 23 August
Pray for the chaplaincy team at Bathgate Academy.
Give thanks that there are openings for an SU
Group and pray that Christian pupils and teachers
in the school would be encouraged by this.
Pray for Valerie Sim as she delivers the Bible
Alive programme to schools in Coatbridge and
Airdrie. Praise God for the enthusiastic way the
programme is being received by schools and for
the encouraging response from pupils, saying it
has changed the way they think about the Bible!
Friday 24 August
At Lendrick Muir this weekend young people
who were involved in the COmMISSION mission
and discipleship programme will get together
to review their summer events and rededicate
themselves to God’s service over the coming
year in school, university and work. Pray for Colin
Carmichael and Rosie Bowker as they lead.
Saturday 25 August
The Big Celebration takes place today at Lendrick
Muir with worship and Bible teaching, summer
updates, the AGM, seminars, commissioning
for another year of ministry, team games and a
ceilidh! Please pray for true celebration of God’s
love and goodness as we rejoice in all he has
done this summer.
Pray that each young person attending the
COmMISSION Review Weekend would feel valued
and encouraged in their faith and respond to
God’s call to live for him in their schools, colleges,
universities and workplaces.
Sunday 26 August
Today many churches are holding Back to
School with God Sunday services. Pray for
congregations, both in Scotland and beyond,
who are using the materials today, that they
would be encouraged to continue in prayer for
their local schools.
Churches in Dunbar have responded to the need
in schools to support children struggling with
literacy. The paired reading programme has been
a way for the church to serve the school and to
demonstrate God’s love. Pray for its impact.
Pray for Christian head teachers in their leadership
role in our schools.
Monday 27 August
Today the New Staff Retreat begins at Alltnacriche,
a time for Bible study, prayer and introduction to
the ethos and practices of SU Scotland. Pray for
rich fellowship and for fresh vision.
Pray for current vacancies in our staff team,
particularly at our centres, that the Lord would
call the right people to fill these positions.
Tuesday 28 August
A Bible Alive training course is taking place at
Alltnacriche. Pray that the participants will leave
feeling equipped to share the Bible with children
and that Bible Alive will spread to many more
schools around Scotland.

hunger to learn more about God following Bible
Alive ministry in their schools, pray for volunteers
to enable SU Groups to be established in schools
in the area.
Wednesday 29 August
Give thanks for the Evangelical Alliance initiative,
‘It takes a whole church to raise a child’, addressing
the deeply concerning loss of children from our
churches. Pray for those in Scotland, including SU
Scotland, working to address this concern.
Pray for Stephen Jones, recently appointed as
Church Partnerships Coordinator, as he networks
with church leaders and builds stronger links
between SU Scotland and the local church.
Thursday 30 August
The Holidays Department and Volunteers Unit
staff members meet tomorrow to review the
summer programme and give thanks for all God
has done. Pray for an encouraging time and for
clear thinking about what went well and what
could have gone better.
The Wheel Trust give thanks for very positive
relationships with the management team at Hillhead
Primary in Glasgow and for the access granted to
a local youth worker. Pray for opportunities for
local churches to work with the school.

Friday 31 August
The Lanarkshire Action Group is holding a coffee
morning tomorrow in Stonehouse to raise
funds to subsidise the cost of weekends away to
children in the area. Pray for this venture.
The team of staff and regular volunteers in
Novosibirsk have a planning meeting to map out
activities for the autumn and winter. Pray for them
to have vision and imagination, as team leader
Tanya hopes by now to be on maternity leave!
Saturday 1 September
Cromarty ‘Trailblazers’ are on their annual
weekend visit to Alltnacriche. Pray that God will
bless their fellowship and time away together.
Please pray that volunteers will come forward
so that SU Groups might be started in St. John’s
Primary, Alloa, and Banchory Primary, Tullibody.
Sunday 2 September
Pray for wisdom for Steve Hall and others who
are looking at the way SU Scotland meets with
young people online.
This coming week Richard Taylor begins the P7
RME programme ‘The Big Questions’ with all
the schools in the Dunbar cluster. Pray that the
children will be challenged to consider where
God fits into their lives and to ask the questions
they are unsure about.
Monday 3 September
Pray for the Activities Team at Lendrick Muir
as they host a canoe training course on the
new lochan. Give thanks for the provision of
the lochan, which opens up so many activity
opportunities on site.
Children from South Park Primary in East Kilbride
are travelling to Alltnacriche for their School
Residential. Pray for safety in travel and during
activities and that they will have a wonderful time.
Tuesday 4 September
The Regional Board Committee meets tonight.
Pray for Jim Dewar as he chairs this committee
which oversees the ministry of the whole regional
team across Scotland.
Give thanks for long-term, faithful supporters
and volunteers who have devoted their time and
efforts to SU Scotland’s ministry over decades.
Please pray that God would raise up another
generation of servants like these.
Wednesday 5 September
Today there is an extended prayer time in our
Glasgow office, giving thanks for the summer
programme and praying for schools ministry in
the months ahead. Join us in worshipping God
for the amazing ways he is building his kingdom.
Tonight Carina Lamb is speaking at a Guild
meeting in Stranraer. Give thanks for this
opportunity and pray for her as she speaks about
SU Scotland’s work in Dumfries and Galloway.
Pray for those who are involved in planning
future primary events in the region, that they
may be given wisdom as to how to proceed.
Thursday 6 September
The Editing Group meets in Milton Street to
review feedback on the teaching material used at
events over the summer and to review progress
on material for Easter and summer events in
2013. Give thanks for those who serve in this way.

Friday 7 September
Pray for tonight’s COOL Trust Back to School with
God evening in Dornie, Lochalsh, and for a sense
of the Lord’s presence as they pray for staff and
students in local schools.
A group of around 100 people from Catterline
Community Church in Stonehaven is at Lendrick
Muir this weekend. Pray for good fellowship and
friendship to be built among the members of the
church through this weekend away.
Saturday 8 September
Give thanks for every volunteer who makes our
weekend events possible, offering themselves
tirelessly as group leaders, chief cooks, assistant
cooks and minibus drivers.
In the Former Soviet Republics, teams run clubs
for children, teenagers, young people and young
families throughout the autumn, winter and
spring. In the cities it is sometimes difficult to get
children together, and it is always difficult to find
enough volunteers. Pray for this ministry.
Sunday 9 September
Give thanks for recent appointments to the
staff team, praying that each relatively new
member of staff would quickly settle in their
role, and be assured of God’s calling that
brought them to us. Pray for people to fill the
vacancies that exist.
Give thanks for Janice Dickie, who led the SU
Group at Firth Primary School, Highland, for over
20 years with the help of Linda Tierney. As she has
now retired, please pray for a replacement.
Monday 10 September
Pray for the P7 pupils of Balbardie Primary in West
Lothian who are visiting Lendrick Muir for the first
time for an activity break.
Jackie Ringan is in the Far East doing some work
with a friend and then having holiday. Pray for
this to be a stimulating and refreshing time of
working with another mission organisation, and
also a good time of relaxation.
Tuesday 11 September
Please remember the Regional Team today
as they drive to Lendrick Muir for their termly
overnight stay of training and fellowship. Pray for
a worthwhile time together.
Hyndland Secondary School in Glasgow asked the
Wheel Trust to run a one-day conference with S5
and S6 pupils to satisfy the curriculum requirements
for Religious and Moral Education. Pray for Kathryn
Campbell and others as they plan how to make the
best use of this fantastic opportunity.
Wednesday 12 September
Give thanks for the SU Group which recently
started in Viewforth High School, Kirkcaldy.
It meets at lunchtime today, led by Chris and
Shanana. Pray for them, as well as other SU
Groups being held today.
Give thanks for new opportunities for SU Groups
at Dalbeattie RC Primary, Colvend Primary and
Kirkcudbright Primary in Dumfries and Galloway.
Thursday 13 September
The SU Board meets this evening and, as always,
needs wisdom and discernment as it seeks to
oversee the ministry of SU Scotland.
The Associate Worker Group meets today. This
group oversees the relationships between SU
Scotland and our 15 Associate Trusts and they
will be examining the new draft Associate Worker
Scheme Handbook. Pray for Lesley Mackintosh
who chairs the group.
Friday 14 September
The Wheel Trust recently started the ‘Noize’
Youth Club on Friday evenings in Hyndland,
Glasgow, which is seeing regular attendance
and serious questions from the teenagers.
Pray for growing understanding and a real
transforming of young lives.
Members of Kirkliston Community Church are
visiting Lendrick Muir for the weekend. Pray for a
time of fellowship and enrichment for them.
Saturday 15 September
Please continue to pray for the financial support
of the Reachout Trust in Cambuslang and
Rutherglen. Give thanks to God for his continued
provision and for an encouraging response from
local churches. Pray for wisdom in managing the
funds and that more funding would be secured
as God sees fit.
A listening service is being offered by the BUSY
Trust to pupils at Broxburn Academy. Volunteers
are available to young people in the Academy –
offering time, space, a chance to be understood
and listened to on whatever topic the young
person may need. Pray for this.

Give thanks for the growth of prayer events
such as Pray Any Way and Strictly Come
Praying. Ask that young people would become
intercessors for their peers.
Andy Bathgate would appreciate prayer as he
preaches at Olivet Evangelical Church in Falkirk
today. Ask for God to speak powerfully
through his Word.
Jen Robertson is at Hillhouse Parish Church in
Hamilton for a ‘Celebrating Children’ service. Pray
that the congregation would be encouraged.
Pray too for the SU Group at Udston Primary
which the church has supported for many years
under Charlotte Craig’s leadership.
Monday 17 September
Give thanks for an upsurge in volunteers at the
Dunbar Area Christian Youth Project, which has
a new chair, secretary and management group
members. As the trust recruits volunteers for its
mentoring programme, thank God for the positive
changes this work has made in young lives.
Pray for Keith Primary School P7s as they enjoy
their annual School Residential at Lendrick Muir.
Tuesday 18 September
Pray for the planning group which meets today
to draw together the programme for the annual
SU Scotland Staff Conference in December.
Pray for John Nonhebel, Urban Ministries
Leader, as he develops relationships with those
involved in ministering to Scotland’s poor and
disadvantaged. Give thanks for encouragements,
particularly those emerging as leaders through
Motiv8 residential events.
Wednesday 19 September
Pray for Jackie Ringan, who is overseeing SU
Scotland’s training and discipleship strategy.
Give thanks for the approximately140 people who
have taken part in our Gap Year programme since
its introduction in 1991; pray for wisdom in the
development of a new Gap Year programme which
will incorporate both discipleship and service.
Thursday 20 September
SU Scotland is partnering with the Baptist Union,
Church of Scotland and CARE in the Serve Your
Local School project, which seeks to inspire and
resource local churches to engage with their local
school. Tonight the partnership steering group
meets; do pray for its new chair, and Kathryn
Campbell as she administers the project.
Pray for protection for God’s work in our schools.
We have seen doors opening in amazing ways to
reach an unchurched generation. Pray that God
would guard these opportunities.
Friday 21 September
St. Mungo’s Church, Balerno are bringing their
children’s ‘Xplorers’ group to Lendrick Muir for a
weekend away. Pray for a great weekend.
At Alltnacriche a group of young people from
Hilton Church in Inverness are having their youth
weekend away. Pray for the time they will share
around worship and the Bible.
Saturday 22 September
Pray for ‘Focus’, a one-day workshop event
organised by Andrew Thompson, Alan Myles
and the Moray Action Group aimed at a broad
audience, including the non-churchgoing public.
Tony Watkins of the Damaris Trust will speak
today on ‘The Art and Soul of Cinema’.
The team in Scripture Union Tajikistan face
special difficulties because of the poor economic
situation in the country. Clubs are often
interrupted by power cuts and club members
have to keep on their outdoor clothes as heating
is inadequate. Pray for perseverance.
Sunday 23 September
Pray for those involved in preparing and
planning the SU Holidays programme
and brochure for 2013, particularly Ewen
Cunningham and Christine Murison.
Wigtownshire Action Group meets tonight in
Glenluce to pray and develop plans for implementing
SU Scotland’s strategy in the area. Pray for wisdom
and guidance for this amazing group of volunteers
who have a real desire to see more young people
from Stranraer, Newton Stewart and surrounding
towns discover Jesus.
Monday 24 September
Give thanks for those who support Oxgangs
Primary, Edinburgh, in prayer. Join with them
in praying for the group of P7 pupils from the
school who are taking part in a School Residential
at Lendrick Muir this week.
Give thanks for the generous response from
churches and individuals to an appeal for financial
support from the BUSY Project. The project was
also blessed by awards from two trusts, enabling
them to look ahead to the next three years.
Tuesday 25 September
Andy Bathgate is speaking to a group of United
Free Church ministers today at Gartmore
House. Please pray that the subject of ‘Children
and Church’ will help these leaders to make a
difference back in their local churches.
The Centres and Holidays Committee meets
this evening, reviewing the summer, thinking
strategically about the work at the centres and
considering issues and challenges across its remit.
Wednesday 26 September
Please pray for the Management Team (Andy
Bathgate, Robin MacLellan, Christine Murison
and Phil Wray) as they meet overnight at Lendrick
Muir and reflect in greater depth on issues facing
SU Scotland.
Pray for the Support Services Team in their
vital ministry to SU Scotland through their
roles in IT, finance, communications, HR and
development. Pray particularly for Emma Boyd
(Communications & Marketing Coordinator) who
has joined the team to cover Carren Malcolm’s
maternity leave.
Thursday 27 September
The management meeting for the 2CY Trust in
Lanarkshire meets this evening. Pray for them as
they discuss the work of the trust and support Alex
Kelly in his role as SU Scotland’s Associate Worker.

Pray for the Junction 12 Board which meets
tonight. Their agenda will include looking
at fundraising to meet budget needs and
supporting the new J12 worker, Gordon McKie.
Friday 28 September
At Alltnacriche this weekend Colin Carmichael is
leading an event for P5-P7 pupils from across the
Highlands. Give thanks for those attending, for
the volunteers on the team and the provision of a
great centre to be based at.
Eaglesham Parish Church Youth Group and
Bearsden Cross Church Bible Class are among the
groups at Lendrick Muir this weekend. Pray that
this weekend away would strengthen the regular
work of these youth groups.
Saturday 29 September
Give thanks for the regular early morning prayer
meetings that are held in the SU Scotland
Dumfries office on the first Wednesday of every
month. Pray that those who gather would know
God’s heart for this region.
Pray for an increase in the number of Roman
Catholic schools being registered for prayer with
Pray for Schools Scotland.
Sunday 30 September
Pray for the ministry of our centres at
Alltnacriche and Lendrick Muir, particularly
giving thanks for a generous response to
the Lendrick Muir ‘Raise the Roof’ appeal to
enable essential roof and related repairs over
the next 3 years.
Today, Pray Any Way is taking place in Aberdeen
for the first time. Pray for much encouragement
for the families attending and for a lasting impact
on children’s lives.
Tomorrow, Richard Taylor will join around 150
P7s from the Dunbar cluster at their transition
camp at Aberfoyle. Pray for Richard as he delivers
sessions based on the Parable of the Wise and
Foolish Builders, that the children may consider
God as a foundation stone for their lives.
