Program. In <strong>2006</strong>, Caryn Koshiba<br />

completed 120 hours <strong>of</strong> service with the<br />

OPA. Caryn gained exposure to different<br />

aspects <strong>of</strong> governmental auditing. During<br />

her internship, Caryn conducted audit<br />

research, completed audit workpapers,<br />

observed interviews, and prepared memos.<br />

Community Service<br />

Junior Achievement – Advisor Team <strong>of</strong><br />

the Year <strong>2006</strong><br />

OPA’s Angela Quinto, Omar Santos, Paul<br />

Gentry, and Zeny Nace were volunteer<br />

advisors to One-ders, a Junior Achievement<br />

(JA) company co-sponsored by Deloitte and<br />

the AGA – Guam Chapter. <strong>The</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice,<br />

through staff affiliations with AGA, is in its<br />

second year <strong>of</strong> involvement with JA. <strong>The</strong><br />

One-ders, comprised <strong>of</strong> local high school<br />

students, began with $98 in capital stock. At<br />

the conclusion <strong>of</strong> the program, the company<br />

paid out $4.15 per share or a $2.15 gain<br />

from the initial investment.<br />

<strong>The</strong> advisor team was awarded the <strong>2006</strong><br />

Advisor Team <strong>of</strong> the Year during the awards<br />

banquet in April <strong>2006</strong>.<br />

OPA Guest Speakers for the National<br />

Honor Society and Career Day<br />

In December <strong>2006</strong>, OPA Management<br />

Analyst Maripaz Perez was the Graduate<br />

Member Guest Speaker for the George<br />

Washington High School’s National Honor<br />

Society (NHS) Induction Ceremony. As a<br />

former member <strong>of</strong> NHS, Maripaz<br />

communicated to the inductees and<br />

members the importance <strong>of</strong> practicing the<br />

four standards <strong>of</strong> character, service,<br />

scholarship, and leadership.<br />

In May <strong>2006</strong>, OPA Audit Supervisor Zeny<br />

Nace and Auditor Rodalyn Marquez were<br />

guest speakers at the Agueda I. Johnston<br />

middle school students Career Day. <strong>The</strong><br />

OPA representatives shared with the<br />

students the mission <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>fice and the<br />

day-to-day activities <strong>of</strong> an auditor.<br />

In September <strong>2006</strong>, Auditor Rodalyn<br />

Marquez presented for the John F. Kennedy<br />

High School’s Career exploration class. She<br />

discussed what its like being an auditor and<br />

the importance <strong>of</strong> choosing a career you<br />

enjoy.<br />

Salvation Army Bell-Ringing<br />

In December <strong>2006</strong>, OPA staff joined the<br />

Association <strong>of</strong> Government Accountants<br />

(AGA) at the Micronesian Mall and Guam<br />

Premier Outlet for the Salvation Army’s<br />

annual Christmas Bell- Ringing Fund Drive.<br />
