Cast of the new Hawaii Five-O
We should have brought earplugs!
In conjunction with its 50 th Anniversary
celebration this year, SMA held their
‘Hawaii Luau Night’ event at the West
Coast Park on Friday, 13 July 2007. The
event was well attended by staff and their
families, students, guests and alumni.
Prior to the main event, foyer
entertainment kept the guests occupied
and the children were pampered with
goodies and prizes. At 7.15pm, the
event kicked off with an opening dance
by two hula dancers. This was followed
with a welcome address by the Director
SMA, Mr Roland Tan. The Guest-of-
Honor, Principal, Mr Low Wong Fook,
and several other VIP guests took the
stage and opened the event by launching
confetti cannons!
While they feasted on the sumptuous
buffet, guests were entertained by
musical bands. More performances
and stage games followed – including
a hip-hop dance performance by the
SP Dance and Cheer Team. In-house
talents later dominated the show until
the late evening. Miss SP 2005, Elly
Hasfidah, joined seven other gorgeous
models on the catwalk for a fashion
show sponsored by H.O.A. Boutique. SP
Talentime 2007 and 2004 winners, Irya
Sulasteri and alumnus Mohd Farhan,
performed several songs with their bands
followed by a duet together. The recent
‘Anugerah’ 2007 (National Malay Talent
Competition) contestant, Hazeeq Ul Haq,
also made a guest appearance and sang
two of his favorite songs. The winner of
the Asia’s James Bond Competition (R U
Bond Enough organized by Star Movie
Channel in 2004), alumnus Dinesh, also
made an appearance on stage showing
his winning Bond looks and moves.
The evening was packed with loads of
fun and excitement. The audience clearly
enjoyed themselves right from the start.
Loud cheers and laughter, and broad
smiles said it all! Some lucky ones walked
away with attractive prizes in the grand
lucky draw. The rest got to bring home
with them some wonderful and happy
memories of the SMA’s 50th Anniversary
celebration! This was all possible because
the hard work and effort put by the joint
Committee of SMAC and SPAN.

School of Business – DBF
Get-together
The School of Business organised a
get-together for the graduates from
the Diploma in Banking & Financial
Services course on Saturday, 4 August
2007 at the Vanda Room. The event was
attended by about 40 SP alumni from the
course. Final year students from the DBF
course were on hand to play host to their
seniors.
As many of the DBF alumni had
graduated a number of years ago, many
of them are already well established in
their careers in the banking and financial
services sectors - the Jaguars streaming in
testified to that! In her welcome speech,
Mrs Wong Mei Shan, Section Head for
the Banking Option, asked the alumni to
continue to remember their alma mater
when it comes time to offer placements
for internships as well as hiring
decisions when their companies are
looking for graduates to employ – both
in good times as well as the not-sogood
times.
The event was enjoyed by the alumni as
well as the staff and students who were
there to host them and they look forward
to the next reunion. Current graduating
students expressed their appreciation for
the opportunity to interact with alumni
- giving then many practical insights to
career and university choices.
