Part 32: Seafarer Certification
32.93 Master 500 to 3000GT unlimited (Master 500-3000GT unlimited)
(1) This certificate competency corresponds to the STCW certificate under regulation II/2.3 and
regulation II/3 of STCW.
(2) The eligibility requirements relating Master 500 to 3000GT unlimited (Master 500-3000GT
unlimited) are provision of proof of meeting each of the matters set out in column 3 of the
following table that correspond to an item in column 2:
Requirement for proof that an applicant:
(a) Prior certification holds a certificate as OOW unlimited or
equivalent.
(b) Core competencies has demonstrated, at the level prescribed in
STCW, the competencies in section A-II/2.3 of
the STCW Code by an accepted means of
demonstrating competence under rule 32.180 or
equivalent.
(c) Final examinations has passed any final examinations that the
Director may require, or equivalents.
(d) Seagoing service has completed approved seagoing service
involving, at a minimum, completion of the
seagoing service described in regulation II/2.3 of
the Annex to STCW.
(e) Ancillary competencies and
ancillary certificates
has demonstrated the following ancillary
competencies:
(a) the ancillary competencies required for
OOW unlimited:
(b) charge of medical care on board ship.
(f) Medical and eyesight
requirements
meets the applicable requirements of Part 34.
32.94 Privileges of Master 500 to 3000GT unlimited
The privileges of a certificate of competency as Master 500-3000GT unlimited are to perform
the functions of a master on ships of between 500 and 3000GT in any operating area.
32.95 Chief mate yacht
(1) This is a certificate of competency that corresponds to an alternative STCW certificate under
regulation VII/1 of STCW.
(2) The eligibility requirements relating to Chief mate yacht are the provision of proof of the
matters set out in column 3 of the following table that correspond to an item in column 2:
Requirement for proof that an applicant:
(a) Age is at least 18 years of age.
(b) Prior certification none.
(c) Core competencies has demonstrated, at management level, the
competencies approved by the Director as
appropriate for the certificate by an accepted
means of demonstrating competence under rule
32.180 or equivalent:
(d) Final examinations has passed any final examinations that the
Director may require, or equivalents, including
completion of an approved task book.
(e) Seagoing service has completed approved seagoing service
involving, at a minimum, completion of the
