Louise Michaud, AOE’s highly-respected
Program Director will be returning to
teaching in the fall of this year. An artist
and teacher by training, a creative soul at
heart, Louise is a dedicated, hardworking
individual who’s passionate about her
work. Louise’s involvement with AOE goes
back 14 years. She originally became a
member to benefit from the services and
opportunities the Council had to offer.
Soon afterwards, she was hired to lead a
community arts project which transformed
the façade of AOE’s former home, the
Cyrville Community Centre, into a colourful
mural celebrating the arts and the artists in
our community.
It didn’t take long before Louise was enticed
to become a volunteer and found herself
involved in organizing festivARTS – AOE’s
annual showcase and celebration of artists,
artisans and local history. Over the years,
with Louise at the helm as Artistic Director,
this event evolved into the successful
Orléans Festival.
In 2009, Louise was hired as Program
Coordinator. With her experience as a
visual artist, she understood the challenges
faced by the arts community. She has
continued to garner great respect from our
membership and artists throughout the
region by increasing
opportunities
for professional
development,
exhibitions,
demonstrations, performances, networking
and engagement with the public through
community arts.
Her talents, sense of humour and
organizational ability; including events such
as ARTinis & Appetizers, SELECTIONS,
potlucks, vernissages, community arts
projects and managing the AOE Gallery
have greatly benefitted artists and are a
testimony of her dedication to AOE and
support of the local arts scene.
For many, Louise has been a source of
inspiration providing encouragement to
pursue a career in the arts and follow their

creative path. She has mentored
students while helping them prepare
their artistic portfolios and her door
has always been open to members
seeking advice. She has poured her
energy into planning the 2013 ARTpreneur
conference to be held at the Shenkman Arts
Centre this fall.
We wish Louise all the best as she returns
to teaching young students who will
undoubtedly benefit from her creativity in the
classroom. Like other AOE alumni, she will
never be too far to lend a hand and give her
support to AOE and the arts.
As of June, Cassandra Olsthoorn will
enthusiastically be taking on the role of
Program Coordinator in addition to her
duties of coordinating the ARTicipate
Endowment Fund granting program.
