The turkey baster is used for the muscle tester in<br />
exploration #3. You can purchase a turkey baster at grocery<br />
stores or online at http://www.webstaurantstore.com/nylonturkey-baster/672P816.html<br />
The lung volume bag is used in exploration #4. They are<br />
also called “breathing fitness kit replacement bags.” These<br />
are available at Sciencekit.com in sets of 4. If you have<br />
more than 4 teams of students, they should share the bags.<br />

You can also buy disposable mouthpieces, but it is much<br />
cheaper to make your own from rolled index cards.<br />
The pipe/hose clamps are needed to build the muscle tester.<br />
They can be found in the plumbing section of most<br />
hardware stores.<br />
Medical Clamps are needed to close the tube tightly in the<br />
muscle tester. Find them at online medical suppliers.<br />

o The cloth/flexible tape measure should be at least 48” long and flexible. Joann Fabrics<br />
carries a variety of vinyl tape measures that work well or you can Look for inexpensive<br />

o Chart paper is used in most, if not all, of the explorations for charts and notes. Four<br />
sheets of chart paper are used in exploration #2 to outline a student’s body. You can<br />
also use a roll of paper for this activity. You can purchase a roll of paper from discount<br />
school supply – discountschoolsupply.com.<br />
o The 12 x 12 inch cardboard squares are an optional material used for the head cutouts in<br />
exploration #2.<br />
o The 12 x 36 inches of cardboard can be used to attach the muscle tester to a flat wall<br />
surface.<br />
o Red food coloring is used to dye the water in the muscle tester. We suggest red, but you<br />
may use any color.<br />
o The balloons are used in exploration #4. You can find them at any party supply shop.<br />
For large quantities you can try bulkballons.com. Please be aware that many children are<br />
allergic to latex.<br />
