Zeppelin carried Auguste Piccard flight<br />
covers to Altenrhein<br />
The Zeppelin flight commemorating the<br />
75th anniversary of Auguste Piccard’s<br />
ballo<strong>on</strong> flight into the stratosphere took<br />
place <strong>on</strong> 18 August 2007 under ideal<br />
weather c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s. After several sightseeing<br />
trips for paying passengers and<br />

invitees, the Auguste Piccard covers were<br />
loaded into the Zeppelin NT which took<br />
off from Dübendorf at 6 pm and landed<br />
in Altenrhein roughly two hours later.<br />
Because the Altenrhein post office was<br />
already closed by that time, the covers<br />

Inaugurati<strong>on</strong> of the Lötschberg<br />
tunnel<br />
The inaugurati<strong>on</strong> of the Lötschberg<br />
tunnel <strong>on</strong> 16 June 2007 was a day to<br />
warm the hearts of inveterate railway<br />
fans: The weather was great, as was the<br />
general atmosphere. The special post<br />
office in Frutigen attracted many fans<br />
keen to obtain Swiss Post’s specially<br />
designed cancellati<strong>on</strong>, with staff handling<br />
countless requests for particular <strong>stamps</strong><br />
affixed to cards and pers<strong>on</strong>ally assembled<br />
covers to be cancelled with it.<br />
Stein am Rhein Town Festival<br />
A Swiss Post special post office was<br />
in attendance at the Stein am Rhein<br />
Town Festival held early in September.<br />
Although the “Stein am Rhein millennium”<br />
<strong>stamps</strong> are already known<br />
throughout the regi<strong>on</strong>, Festival visitors<br />
flocked to the special post office to<br />
have their <strong>stamps</strong> embellished <strong>on</strong> the<br />
jubilee cover with the special cancellati<strong>on</strong><br />
designed for this event.<br />

125 years of the Gotthard Railway<br />
The 125th anniversary of the Gotthard<br />
Railway <strong>on</strong> 8 and 9 September 2007<br />
was a great occasi<strong>on</strong> for young and old<br />
alike. Swiss Post set up a special post<br />
office in Erstfeld, besides creating a<br />
special cover and a special cancellati<strong>on</strong> –<br />
appropriately featuring the: “Croc locomotive“<br />
– for the big day. The event,<br />
which was mainly organized by the SBB<br />
(Swiss Railways), featured many attracti<strong>on</strong>s<br />
and tours and drew crowds of<br />
interested visitors from near and far.
