Tremendous desire for victory
wins District 2- B for Wildcats
Bill Barden, ill his first year as head coach ,
guided the 1969 WiLdcats to the 2-13 district championship.
From a di smal start to a blazing finish
was the story of the Cats this year. The Wildcats
b egan the year by losing one g ame, winning one.
and los in g another. The team then put it all together
and won the next five stra ight. including
everyone of their district foes. The vVildca ts's only
defea ts came by the hands of class A schools, al ­
though all played were larger than Harding.
The offensive and defensive lines were coached
by Wilt Martin, and four of the seven all-district
playerlt were linem en. Coach Ba rden and Martin
installed a new diversified offense this year, and
the monster defense yielded points grudgingly.
Senior leadership played a big part in the Cats
winning season . Alec Petway gained over 1,100
yards and four seniors made the all-district team.
All-district selections were made by the coach es
from the 2-B schools. Seven Academ y students
made the district team: they were Alec Petway,
Larry Davis, Johnny Ba ines, T on y Duran. Tim
Ram sey, David Ca mpbell, Stephen Tucker .
