<strong>The</strong> Chesapeake Gateway Chamber <strong>of</strong> Commerce was founded <strong>an</strong>d incorporated in 1948. <strong>The</strong> membership<br />

originally cons<strong>is</strong>ted <strong>of</strong> 16 merch<strong>an</strong>ts located in the Essex business d<strong>is</strong>trict. Over the years, membership has<br />

grown to include larger geographic boundaries, which now include Essex, Middle River, Back River, Chase,<br />

White Marsh, Golden Ring, Rosedale <strong>an</strong>d surrounding areas.<br />

<strong>The</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber <strong>of</strong> Commerce <strong>is</strong> to serve as <strong>an</strong> advocate for the business<br />

community <strong>an</strong>d to promote economic development <strong>an</strong>d the socioeconomic growth <strong>of</strong> the overall community.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Chamber <strong>is</strong> entirely non-political, non-part<strong>is</strong><strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>d non-sectari<strong>an</strong>, <strong>an</strong>d <strong>is</strong> not operated for pr<strong>of</strong>it.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Chamber <strong>is</strong> compr<strong>is</strong>ed <strong>of</strong> business pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, government <strong>of</strong>ficials <strong>an</strong>d community-minded individuals<br />

who work together to enh<strong>an</strong>ce the community through better business <strong>an</strong>d industry. Presently, the area <strong>is</strong><br />

experiencing <strong>an</strong> exciting period <strong>of</strong> positive growth. <strong>The</strong> Chamber <strong>is</strong> ready for the opportunities <strong>of</strong> the<br />

exp<strong>an</strong>ding business <strong>an</strong>d re<strong>side</strong>ntial community.<br />

Currently the Chamber supports:<br />

• <strong>The</strong> recent Route 43 Extension to Eastern Boulevard, which opened 2,000 acres for economic development<br />

<strong>an</strong>d provided opportunities for exp<strong>an</strong>ding new ventures in Middle River <strong>an</strong>d the entire shoreline area.<br />

• Port <strong>of</strong> <strong>Baltimore</strong> <strong>an</strong>d C & D C<strong>an</strong>al, a critical source for economic stability <strong>of</strong> the entire region <strong>an</strong>d state. <strong>The</strong><br />

Chamber supports the environmentally safe strategic dredging pl<strong>an</strong> for <strong>Baltimore</strong> to meet 21st-century dem<strong>an</strong>ds.
