Exposure of Hong Kong Photography By Kam Wing Man, Angel; Leung Ka Man; Wong Chun Yin, Al The Gold Prize of the Color section in the HK Photography Contest was given to a CIE student! This is the largest annual activity of the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Photograph Association. This contest has been held successfully every year since 1979. There were two notable aspects of the contest this year. First, 555 photos were received in the Color section; this number broke the record for the last 25 years. The other notable aspect was the Gold Prize of the Color section was won by a HKBU student, Leung Siu Ting, who is one of the committee members of the Photograph Association. The title of his photo was “Sea Shell”. The adjudicators named him as the glory of HKBU since there has not been an HKBU student that won the Gold Prize for several years. For the Black and White section, the Gold Prize was won by a City University student, Hui Yau Tak. The title of his photo was “Fishing”. The adjudicators praised him as a creative photographer. This year, the judging was held Hong Kong Baptist University Photograph Association on 26 February at LT3 in Ho Sin Hang Campus. Ten adjudicators were invited to judge the participants’ photos. One of them was Mr. Ho Chit Chuen, who is an enthusiastic and experienced photographer. Two exhibitions were held for the contestants' work. One inside HKBU after the prize-awarding ceremony, 2 April to 8 April 2005; the other was held in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from 16 April to 22 April 2005. Both exhibitions were free of charge and open to all. This contest could give you a chance to show your photography talent to the public and improve your skill in photography. Especially in the more physical contact sports, one’s height would very much limit one’s performance. Basketball is no doubt a “taller the better” sport. If you are taller, you can have better views for passing the ball, a higher chance of getting the rebound and blocking shots, and most importantly you might be able to score by the coolest way—slam dunk. I understand all this, but it doesn’t stop me from playing basketball, since I realize that ‘short people can play’. My favorite basketball player Earl Boykins is only 5’5”, 133 lbs; he is actually even ‘smaller’ than me. Though he stands on the court with people averaging 6’6” in the NBA, he is one of the best point guards in the league. He runs fast on the court, his passing skills are top class, his mid-range jumper hardly misses, and he is one of the fastest dribblers. With a lot of practice and most importantly a strong mind, something, everyone thought to be impossible, can actually happen. Whenever I see him play against bigger players, it reminds me that nothing is impossible, as long as I put effort into it. The Internationalist 2
Sports Festival From Page 1 “This is the first time that we have had a Sport Festival at CIE. Our aim is to provide a professional sport competition for our CIE students to show their sport ability, and through the different competitions to strengthen the relationships between our schoolmates,” said Gilbert Lo, CIESS Sport and Recreation Officer. It was a surprise that the level of the competition was very high. Many of the athletes were either school team members at HKBU or school team members when they studied in secondary school. We can conclude that there are many outstanding athletes in our college. In the HKBU Swimming Gala and Athletics Meet, our CIESS representatives gave outstanding performances, they were the overall champion in the swimming gala and overall first runner-up in the Athletics Meet. In the CIE Boys and Girls Badminton Competition, Alan Kwok and Ho Pui Man played smooth games and were crowned champions. In the table tennis competition, Felix Kar and Yu Ho Ming had an exciting final match, Felix Kar became the champion in the end. Lastly, in the CIE football competition, Kenji Ip led his team “Yan SheungShu” to the final round; in the end, Yan SheungShu defeated the SRS team and Explode Egg Party (EEP) Representative Team in the final stage and became the CIE football Competition Champion. Kenji Ip also got the MVP with his 15 goals in the competition.
