Mucho Vino<br />

errera might have ranched until 1920, 219 but he<br />
probably didn’t. In 1915 a San Francisco newspaper<br />
carried a short report from Bakersfield: “Inspired to his old-time<br />
ardor from mucho vino,” <strong>Herrera</strong> chased after Constable Charles<br />
Headstrom “shouting maledictions and other things” at him.<br />
Headstrom threw <strong>Herrera</strong> in jail. The paper added that the exfighter<br />
was a “member in good standing of the down-and-out<br />
club.” 220 But it didn't exactly happen the way the paper said.<br />
According to the Californian <strong>Herrera</strong> was indeed drunk, and he’d<br />
probably been in that condition many times before: “Headstrom<br />
arrested <strong>Herrera</strong> once before for being drunk and disorderly, and<br />
the Mexican athlete has never forgotten it. This morning, it is<br />
said, <strong>Herrera</strong> had a fighting jag, and called Headstrom a few ‘pet<br />
